    Abstract: A permanent magnet electric motor includes a shaft extending along a longitudinal axis, wherein the shaft defines a shaft jacket extending along a first direction, a rotor mounted on the shaft, a stator disposed about the rotor. The rotor defines a plurality of longitudinal channels each with the shaft jacket. The longitudinal channels are part of a rotor jacket. The rotor jacket includes a plurality of inlets fluidly interconnecting the shaft jacket and the plurality of the longitudinal channels. The rotor jacket includes an inner edge and an outer edge opposite the inner edge. The rotor jacket includes a plurality of outlets each in fluid communication with the plurality of longitudinal channels. Each of the outlets is closer to the inner edge than to the outer edge of the rotor jacket.

    Abstract: A method comprises detecting identities of occupants of a vehicle using any of a camera system, an audio system, a biometric sensing system, and a mobile device detection system in the vehicle. The method comprises matching the detected identities to corresponding profiles of the occupants. The profiles include permissions set by the occupants for collecting data about preferences of the occupants. The method comprises perceiving, based on the permissions in the profiles, preferences of the occupants for inputs received by the occupants. The perceiving includes capturing responses of the occupants to the inputs using any of the camera system, a haptic sensing system, and an audio system in the vehicle, and wherein the perceiving further includes processing the responses using trained models. The method comprises adding the preferences to the profiles to provide content to the occupants based on the preferences stored in the profiles.

The jacket is elongated in a first direction. The first direction is parallel to the longitudinal axis. The rotor defines a plurality of longitudinal channels. Each of the plurality of longitudinal channel is elongated along the first direction, and each of the plurality of longitudinal channels is in fluid communication with the jacket to allow fluid flow between the jacket and the plurality of the longitudinal channels.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system for reducing cold start emissions of a motor vehicle. A brushless DC motor is coupled to an engine for cranking the engine. In response to receiving a cold start signal from a cold start actuator, the motor controller activates the brushless DC motor to crank the engine for a cold start duration and increase fuel pressure. In response to a motor controller receiving an auto start signal from an auto start actuator, the motor controller activates the brushless DC motor to crank the engine for an auto start duration that is shorter than the cold start duration. In response to determining that the cold start duration or the auto start duration has expired, an engine controller activates the fuel delivery system to deliver fuel to the engine.

    Abstract: A rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) for a vehicle having thermal runaway propagation mitigation includes at least two battery modules disposed within the RESS. Each battery module includes a plurality of battery cell groups, and a thermal barrier disposed at an end portion of each battery module. Each thermal barrier extends along a width of the end portion of each battery module, and includes a plurality of openings having at least one opening aligned with each of the plurality of battery cell groups of each battery module, and a relief portion adjacent to each of the plurality of openings. The relief portions prevent hot gas and/or particles from venting through an opening adjacent to the relief portion when in a closed position, and allows the hot gas and/or particles to vent through the opening adjacent to the relief portion when in an open position.

    Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, a LiDAR is provided that is configured for installation in a mobile platform. The LiDAR includes a scanner and a light-intensity receiver. The scanner includes a light source configured to direct illumination in an illuminating direction. The light-intensity receiver includes one or more light-intensity sensors; and one or more lens assemblies configured with respect to the one or more light-intensity sensors, such that that at least one sensor plane from the one or more light-intensity sensors is tilted to form a non-zero angle with at least one equivalent lens plane from the one or more lens assemblies, transferring the sensor focal plane to be align with the main light illumination direction and be consistent with the direction of movement of a mobile platform.
