Abstract: A battery assembly includes a housing having a base wall and a plurality of side walls that are connected to the base wall. The base wall includes a mid-line. A plurality of battery modules is arranged between the mid-line and one of the plurality of side walls. Each of the plurality of battery modules includes an inboard end facing the mid-line and an outboard end facing the one of the plurality of side walls. A plurality of battery cells is arranged in each of the plurality of battery modules. A cover assembly is mounted on each of the plurality of battery modules. The cover assembly includes an inner cover member and an outer cover member spaced from and connected to the inner cover member. The outer cover member restricts gas flow from the plurality of battery cells to the outboard end.

Abstract: A mixer includes a plurality of blades extending along a longitudinal axis. The blades are arranged in a single row, and are axially spaced from each other along a transverse axis. Each of the blades defines a window. Each of the blades includes an upstream portion, and a downstream portion. Each of the blades includes a bend at the window that forms an interior blade angle between its respective upstream portion and its respective downstream portion. The single row of the blades is arranged to include a first group of blades and a second group of blades. The interior blade angle of each of the blades in the first group faces in a first axial direction along the transverse axis. The interior blade angle of each of the blades in the second group faces in a second axial direction along the transverse axis.

Abstract: An apparatus for managing gases produced by batteries includes a battery case housing multiple battery cells, each with a vent for releasing pressurized gas. A thermal barrier layer is positioned beside the cells with sacrificial regions matching the vent count. On the other side of the barrier, a vent gas conduit collects gas from any venting cell through the sacrificial region, then directs it outside the battery case into the surrounding environment.

Abstract: A battery includes a housing having a base. A battery cell stack and an enclosure are supported on the base of the housing. The battery cell stack includes a plurality of battery cells physically separated into a first battery cell group and a second battery cell group. The enclosure includes first and second support walls respectively disposed on opposite first and second sides of the first battery cell group and a canopy extending between the first and second support walls, above the first battery cell group. The enclosure partially surrounds the first battery cell group on three sides and establishes a physical and thermal barrier between the first battery cell group and the second battery cell group.

Abstract: A turbocharger for an internal combustion engine having a close coupled catalyst assembly includes a turbine housing having a toroidal-shaped low pressure exhaust gas chamber having a plurality of vanes disposed proximate the outer circumferential wall of the low pressure exhaust gas chamber. The vanes are arranged to disrupt the rotational flow of the exhaust gases as they exit the turbine housing to provide a more even flow though the catalyst element of the close coupled catalyst assembly.

Abstract: The exhaust gas system includes a catalytic converter having an inlet and an outlet, a primary exhaust pipe, an exhaust nozzle and a secondary exhaust pipe. The primary exhaust pipe includes a proximate end and a distal end. The primary exhaust pipe may be affixed to the outlet of the catalytic converter at the proximate end of the primary exhaust pipe. The secondary exhaust pipe may be coupled to the distal end of the primary exhaust pipe via the exhaust nozzle. The exhaust nozzle includes a body region which is integral to a frustoconical defined region. The body region of the exhaust nozzle may be engaged to the distal end of the primary exhaust pipe. The frustoconical defined region of the exhaust nozzle may be engaged to the secondary exhaust pipe.

Abstract: An exhaust gas treatment system includes a selective catalytic reduction device (SCR); a reductant injector upstream from the SCR and configured to communicate reductant into the SCR via a conduit defined by an outer periphery, a first mixer disposed within the conduit upstream from the reductant injector, and a second mixer disposed within the conduit downstream from the reductant injector and upstream from the SCR. Each of the first mixer and the second mixer comprises a plurality of blades extending between a center region of the conduit to the conduit periphery, wherein each of the blades at least partially obstructs fluid flow through the conduit and are angled relative to a cross sectional plane of the conduit such that fluid flow is permitted between adjacent blades, and the plurality of blades form a turbulence plane defined by a plane angle measured from the two outermost blades of the turbulence plane.

Abstract: A battery pack includes one or more battery modules subject to generating hot vent gasses during a thermal runaway event, a housing enclosing the battery modules therein and defining perimeter vent openings, and a plurality of perimeter vent assemblies. Each vent assembly is connected adjacent a corresponding one of the vent openings, and includes a translatable member, a gas diffuser block, and at least one sacrificial post. The gas diffuser block is connected to an outer surface of the housing, covers a respective one of the vent openings, and defines a plurality of orifices. The at least one sacrificial post is configured to melt or incinerate at a predetermined temperature to cause the translatable member to translate relative to the diffuser block and thereby prevent the vent gasses from escaping the battery pack.

Abstract: A battery system includes a first battery cell and a neighboring second battery cell. The battery system also includes a battery system enclosure surrounded by an external environment and configured to house the first and second battery cells. The battery system additionally includes a collection bag housed within the battery system enclosure and fixed to each battery cell. The collection bag is configured to capture high-temperature gases and/or debris vented by at least one of the battery cells. The collection bag is also configured to divert the captured high-temperature gases and/or debris of each battery cell away from the other battery cell. The collection bag thereby reduces transfer of the high-temperature gases and/or debris between the battery cells and mitigates propagation of a thermal runaway event in the battery system. The collection bag is further configured to expel the captured high-temperature gases and/or debris to the external environment.
