摘要: A data intermediate server 300 comprises the functions of reading data stored in storage servers ST1 through ST3 and sending the data to a media server 600 according to backup commands received from a backup control device 400 over a local area network LAN4. The data intermediate server 300 and the storage servers ST1 through ST3 are connected by channels that do not permit Internet protocol traffic but only data targeted for backup and control data assigned thereto. As a result, client data stored on the storage servers can be properly backed up while preventing data from being improperly retrieved or leaked.

The file server analyzes the file access states, and groups the files depending on the access time period, defines the file migration pattern based on the grouping, migrates the files, and then carries out a power management operation like a spin-down/-up operation on the RAID groups based on the migration pattern.

摘要: When performing migration of data from a migration source file server which is not endowed with any HSM interface, to a migration destination file server which is endowed with HSM, a volume of high capacity is needed for the migration destination file server, and moreover the performance deteriorates directly after the migration. However, with this system, the manager is enabled to set a migration policy using attribute information which can be acquired through a standard file access interface possessed by a file server program, and, when setting the attribute information of the migration destination file, the tier of the file which is to be created is determined, and the migration destination file is created, on the basis of this attribute information and migration policy.

The storage controller 2600 holds storage cost coefficients 3202 of the respective storage apparatuses 1100, 1200 and 1300, user cost allocation information 3302 for each user using the storage system 1000 from the external device 1500, and user cost distribution information 3402 that defines, for each user, proportions of an available space amount distributed to the storage apparatuses 1100, 1200 and 1300. The storage controller 2600 calculates an ideal utilization 3502 for each user, from the storage cost coefficients 3202 and the user cost distribution information 3402, and allocates, for each user, the ideal utilization 3502 to each of the storage apparatuses 1100, 1200 and 1300, in the order of the performance capabilities from highest to lowest.

摘要: Upon integration of a file system, user identifier recorded in a storage as management data is translated. A file server connected to a storage storing the data of a file system therein has a file system operation unit for managing the file system, a file server operation unit for receiving the access request to the file, and a user identifier translation unit for carrying out translation between first user identifier, which is used by the client and second user identifier, which is recorded in the storage as management data of the file system. Receiving the access request to the file from the client, the user identifier translation unit translates the second user identifier included in the management data of the file that is an access target of the access request into the first user identifier, and the file server operation unit transmits the management data to the client.

摘要: There is provided a file server which is capable of suppressing power consumption of a storage apparatus. When a file sharing program receives a file access from a client, the program makes reference to a mapping table. Then, the program addresses the access to the target file in the volume of a RAID group in which the target file is stored. A coupling-request reception program memorizes a coupling time for each user into a coupling history table. A grouping program applies a grouping to users whose coupling time-zones are similar to each other. A data transfer program transfers, into the same RAID group, data of the files associated with the grouped users, thereby collecting the data of the files into the same RAID group. On account of this, the time-zone during which no access is made to the RAID group (i.e., non-coupling time-zone) can be made longer. Accordingly, a spin-up/down request program makes a spin-down request to the RAID group in the non-coupling time-zone.

摘要: There is provided a file server which is capable of suppressing power consumption of a storage apparatus.
