Gaskets are placed in joints between adjacent nonferrous metal engine members of a water-cooled engine for an outboard motor, such as a cylinder block, a cylinder head, a crankcase, a mount case and an oil pan, to seal the joints. Each of the gaskets has a base member formed of a stainless steel. The surfaces of the base member are coated with electrochemical corrosion preventing films formed by applying a liquid containing flakes of an aluminum alloy or a zinc alloy and a silicate resin in films and baking the films of the liquid. The electrochemical corrosion preventing films are coated with sealing films formed by applying a liquid containing aluminum flakes and a silicate resin to the electrochemical corrosion preventing films and baking the films of the liquid. The gaskets are prevented from electrochemically corroding despite potential difference between each gasket and the adjacent engine members.

An engine intake manifold is provided that can prevent fuel loss by promptly supplying to an engine the fuel that has collected on the base within an intake air distribution box. The engine intake manifold includes an intake air distribution box having an intake inlet, and a plurality of intake branch pipes made of a synthetic resin that are provided in a vertical arrangement connected to a side wall of the intake air distribution box with downstream ends connected to a plurality of corresponding intake ports of the engine. A funnel is formed at the upstream end of each of the intake branch pipes disposed within the intake air distribution box. A fuel collector recess is formed on the base of the intake air distribution box. A fuel draw-up hole communicating with the recess, is provided in a side wall of the lowest funnel.

An intake system in a V-type 4-stroke engine for an outboard engine system is provided. A crankshaft of the engine is disposed vertically, and heads of left and right banks are disposed to face rearwards. The engine is covered with an engine hood. In the intake system, an intake air inlet is provided in an upper portion of a longitudinally flat intake air dispensing box disposed between the left and right banks and a rear wall of the engine hood, and leads to an intake passageway in a throttle body. The inside of the intake air dispensing box is divided by a partition wall into first and second dispensing chambers communicating with the intake air inlet and extending longitudinally. An on-off valve is mounted on the partition wall and is capable of bringing the first and second dispensing chambers into and out of communication with each other. Intake ports are provided in the left and right banks to communicate with the first and second dispensing chambers, respectively. Thus, it is possible to provide an intake system for a V-type 4-stroke engine in an outboard engine system, in which the air-charging characteristic can be changed in accordance with the operation state of the engine, while avoiding an increase in size of the engine hood.

Disclosed is an apparatus for controlling a semiconductor laser module wherein despite an increase in laser driving current owing to aging of the laser module, temperature control can be performed accurately so as to render constant the actual temperature of the laser module and prevent a change in lasing wavelength that accompanies a change in temperature. The apparatus includes a photodiode for sensing optical intensity of the laser; an APC circuit for controlling driving current of the laser in accordance with an output from the photodiode; a thermistor for sensing the temperature of the laser module; an ATC circuit for driving an electronic laser-cooling device in accordance with an output from the thermistor; and a current-quantity sensing circuit, which is connected to the APC and ATC circuits, for sensing the driving current of the laser output from the APC circuit. Data obtained by measurement of actual temperature of the laser module in relation to the laser driving current is stored in the ATC circuit in advance. The data obtained by measurement, laser driving current information output from the current-quantity sensing circuit and temperature information output from the thermistor are compared and the driving current of the cooling device is set, based upon the result of the comparison, in such a manner that the actual temperature of the laser module is rendered constant.
