Abstract: Disclosed are several embodiments of a battery-less piezo-electric defibrillation system (2) comprising external piezo-electric defibrillator (4) and at least one electrode (5) connected thereto. The system includes a piezo-electric generator (6) connected to direct cardiac access—(5), or indirect subcutaneous electrode assemblies (30). The piezo-electric generator (6) is energized by a spring-driven striker element (8) and produces electrical pulse for defibrillation. The direct cardiac access electrodes (5) engage the heart muscle directly via the intercostal space. Alternatively, indirect subcutaneous electrodes (34a) are positioned under patient's skin.

Abstract: A dual mode grenade (2) is selectively operational in lethal and non-lethal modes. The grenade (2) contains a hard back (10) containing fuse/safing assembly (14), and the central explosive charge (12) surrounded respectively by non-lethal (N-L) projectiles (8), N-L case (6), and the removable lethal fragmentation shell (4). The grenade operates in lethal fragmentation mode when all its components are present and the fragmentation shell bursts into plurality of lethal projectiles (18). The N-L operation of the grenade is effected by the removal of the fragmentation shell (4) whereby N-L projectiles are allowed to eject outwards in response to the bursting of explosive charge (12).

Abstract: A new and improved semiconductor thermoelectric device which could be used either as a thermoelectric cooler or as a thermopile heat sensor with high output voltage. This invention comprises an array of thermocouples fabricated on a semiconductor substrate. The thermocouples comprise segments of tantalum and segments of conductively doped polysilicon as two electric conductor materials of different thermoelectric properties which are buried between two layers of oxide. A layer of metal as a heat collector covers the surface of the thermopile and distributes heat from a nearby heat source.

Abstract: Described are several embodiments of parabolic reflective antenna systems where rigid parabolic dishes based on shape memory materials are deployed to full size and shape from compact pre-folded preforms by application of heat. Several shape memory feeds working with the dishes are presented. Feed preforms include corrugated, telescopic and flattened ribbon types which extend or unfurl into final shapes upon application of heat. Several dish and feed embodiments also contain supports for secondary reflectors and patch antennas.

Abstract: An obturator ring (4) for a mortar round (2) is proposed where the geometry of the ring (4) is modified by its sliding and striking stationary anvil (18) when the round (2) is placed in the muzzle-loaded mortar's barrel (6) and reaches its bottom. The initial ring (4) geometry does not impede round's travel down the barrel (6) while its modified geometry provides a gas seal between the round (2) and the barrel (6) wall.Several embodiments featuring free-rotating (4), splined non-rotational (4a) and stationary separated (12a-14a) designs are presented.The ring works with both smoothbore and rifled mortar barrels and in several embodiments imparts rotation to the round (2) if used in a rifled barrel (6).An optimized muzzle-loaded mortar barrel (6) operating in cooperation with rounds equipped with the obturator ring of instant invention is also presented, containing rifled (6a) and smoothbore (6b) sections.
