Abstract: A personal communication device may operate as a femtocell providing femtocell accessibility and services to a plurality of communication devices that are communicatively coupled to the personal communication device via one or more cellular connections. The personal communication device may connect to one or more broadband networks, via a plurality of wired and/or wireless interfaces, to enable the communication of packets when providing the femtocell accessibility and/or services. The personal communication device may support direct communications via the personal communication device when providing femtocell services. Signal strength may be boosted in the personal communication device when providing femtocell servicing via a signal booster that may be integrated within the personal communication device or may be externally attached to it during femtocell operations. The personal communication device may receive compensation for providing femtocell services to one or more of the plurality of communication devices.

Abstract: A network browser has a Malware detection manager for direct or indirect scanning of files during an upload or download processes for viruses, adware, spyware, etc. The malware detection manager defines and employs a quarantine bin, which is an isolated and secure memory space or directory for temporary placement of file packets during the file transmission while malware detection can commence. The malware detection manager scans for any malware code associated with the packet sequence encountered during a file transmission to and from the Internet, during which it quarantines all the scanned packets in the quarantine bin. Quarantined files can be released if there is a human challenge authorizing the release of the file. The invention also comprises exchanging a Malware free signature between server and client via a trusted download center. If a certified and valid malware free signature is provided, the client device need not scan the files for malware bytes as the content is certified and guaranteed as malware-free.

Abstract: A digital electronic device supports program transmission to a recipient device via the Internet. A frame adapter decodes incoming IP program packets and re-encodes resulting program signals adaptively to optimally suit the recipient device based upon configuration data of the recipient device. The frame adapter receives feedback from the recipient device, which may include a characterization of a communication path between the digital electronic device and the recipient device. The frame adapter utilizes the configuration information to generate the optimal video frame stream that is transmitted to the recipient device. The compression itself involves producing optimal number of base and predicted video frames. The adaptive encoder and multiplexer receives digitized program signals either from a local source or from an external program source, transcodes (optionally), encodes and multiplexes them adaptively to optimally suit individual recipient devices, based on configurations of the corresponding recipient devices.

Abstract: Determining video content type of a video displayed on a LCD and triggering adjustment in drive power of the LCD based on the video content type. The video content type indicates relative content motion of the video. A video content type detection module is one or combination of a software and a hardware and directs the LCD to be driven relative slower or faster based upon video content. The module independently or in conjunction with another module identifies an active window from a plurality of windows corresponding to a plurality of applications running on the host device and sets the drive power of the LCD based on speed of a video displayed on the active window. The module may also adapt LCD drive power based upon user input and/or remaining battery life.

Abstract: An online sales/automatic rebate and coupon redemption system provides online customers automatic retrieval and redemption of all applicable rebates and coupons during purchase. Purchase orders from customers are selectively fulfilled and products are shipped to the customers either by the system for online sales with automatic rebate and coupon redemption or by other merchant or manufacturer environments. The system purchases from merchants using applicable coupons and rebates and then sells the products to the customers, passing the savings to them. The system makes it possible to automatically retrieve coupons and rebates for items in a shopping cart during the activity of an online purchase at an electronic mall or an online merchant site. The system provides coupons to potential customers via email, based on customer profile, geographical information, etc. Manufacturers and merchants can update coupon value and content based on ongoing sales and volume of customer activity.

Abstract: A stand alone low cost writing pad includes a rechargeable battery, a low capacity memory, a low power processor, a first pair of connectors and supports audio, video and digital ink capturing functionalities. The writing may be detached from and re-attached to a stand alone base unit using the first pair of connectors. The base unit includes another rechargeable battery, high capacity memory, high power processor and a second pair of connectors. First data bus of the writing pad and second data bus of the base unit respectively run into the first pair of connectors and the second pair of connectors thereby ensuring that a communication pathway is set up between the writing pad and base unit when the writing pad is attached to the base unit. The base unit receives the captured audio and digital ink from the writing pad via the communication pathway and the high power processor runs voice recognition and optical character recognition software on received data to generate a second data. The second data is displayed on the writing pad and/or stored in the high capacity memory for future use.

Abstract: An end-point device comprises multiple transceivers via which the end-point device associates with multiple access points simultaneously. The access points may belong to communicatively incompatible packet switched data networks. A backbone network communicatively connects all associated access points. The end-point device receives unique network address of an access point from the access point upon association and sends network addresses of other currently associated access points and first rule information to the access point either upon association or prior to detaching from the access point. One or more of the other currently associated access points may direct above action of the end-point device. The end-point device or one of the other access points generates the first rule information. The access point on identifying detachment of the end-point device from it uses one or more of the network addresses of other currently associated access points to deliver data packets to the end-point device via the backbone network and corresponding access point(s). Any one of the associated access points sends second rule information to another of the associated access points via the backbone network wherein the second rule information comprises information regarding pathway to be used, type of data to be delivered, duration of interaction between the access point and the detached end-point device via the backbone network etc.
