Abstract: Methods for facilitating and supporting the metabolism and transport of glucose and carbohydrates into muscle cells are taught. Preferably, the methods include the step of administering a composition of bio-active compounds further including 4-hydroxyisoleucine and one or more amino acids selected from the group consisting of arginine, aspartate, threonine, serine, glutamate, proline, glycine, alanine, cysteine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, ornithine, lysine, histidine, and gamma-aminobutyrate. In one presently preferred embodiment of the present invention, the bio-active compounds are extracted from fenugreek seeds. The methods of the present invention preferably include a composition of bio-active compounds with between about 10% and 70% of 4-hydroxyisoleucine and between about 20% and 40% of the amino acids. In presently preferred embodiments of the present invention, methods may work independently of or synergistically with insulin to stimulate the activity of glucose transport receptors located in muscle. More particularly, methods of the present invention may stimulate the activity of glucose transport receptor type 4.

Abstract: A radiation thermometer utilizing an off-focus telecentric lens arrangement in chemical vapor deposition reactors. An object assembly of one or more optical components is positioned at a distance equal to its focal length from an aperture stop. The aperture stop is dimensioned so that the chief rays are substantially parallel with the optical axis of the object assembly, and so that the rays that pass through the aperture stop define a narrow solid angle about the chief rays. The off-focus telecentric arrangement thus configured is focused at infinity, but is utilized to capture radiation from a relatively proximate target (e.g., within a couple meters) that is out of focus. The capture of collimated radiation from the target diminishes the contribution of stray radiation, particularly with targets having a highly specular surface.

Abstract: The invention provides for verifying correctness of a database system. A SQL instruction is received and access paths of the received SQL instruction are extended. The SQL instruction is executed by using the extended access paths, and the correctness of the database system is verified according to results of executing the SQL instruction. With the method and system of the invention, the object of verifying correctness of a database system by automatically extending access paths of SQL statement may be achieved, and the object of verifying correctness of a database system scientifically, effectively and purposefully based on ratio of error or defect present in database itself due to various data manipulation approaches (different values of access path elements) may also be achieved.

Abstract: An ink jet printhead maintenance system, which can be part of an ink jet printer, for removing ink residue from a printhead faceplate. The printhead maintenance system can include a supply of liquid which can be applied to the ink residue on the printhead faceplate using various techniques, such as those described. The liquid can include a monomer and/or an oligomer. The wet clean system described can be more effective in removing ink residue which can result from certain inks, such as ultraviolet curable gel inks, than previous printhead maintenance techniques.

Abstract: An indirect media flatness measurement system, and method, by which the appropriate level of hold-down force may be determined with some degree of quantitative accuracy. In an ink jet printer that is operative to subject a substrate media to a hold down force during printing, the method including printing a predetermined test image having a predetermined pattern on a substrate media using an ink jet print apparatus to produce a test print. Optionally, pattern may be an array of test symbols. The test symbol may include a line printed on the substrate media in a direction perpendicular to a process direction of the printer. The test print is compared with the predetermined test image, including measuring drop placement errors of test symbols. The height of the substrate media at the location of each test symbol is calculated based upon the drop placement error.
