Abstract:
A water retention dam including a collapsible outer shell having an inner chamber and at least one surface for preventing the passage of water. The outer shell has a first surface configured to serve as a barrier to water and a second surface for attachment to a floor. The second surface has a recess for receiving an adhesive.
Abstract:
Methods and arrangements are provided to significantly reduce the processing burden in a data storage device and streamline the transfer of frames of data from the storage device to an external device, by taking into account certain known or otherwise determinable characteristics about the data recorded on the storage medium and selectively applying tag data to each frame of data. The tag data is then used to determine the disposition of each frame of data, and what actions if any are required to process the frame of data within the storage device. Since this “tagging”, which can be logical or physical, can occur at an early stage in the circuitry of the storage device, the amount of subsequent processing is significantly reduced. Consequently, the latency associated with the storage device is also reduced. The various embodiments of the present invention can be used for a variety of data storage devices including, but not limited to, optical disc drives, magnetic drives and tapes, and similar data storage devices.
Abstract:
Methods and arrangements are provided for a block decoder in the form of a single integrated circuit (IC) for use in a variety of data storage devices. The block decoder is configured to transfer streaming data from the storage medium to an external device, such as a host computer's processor, without introducing any significant overhead induced latency into the data transfer. This is accomplished by employing a purely hardware-based logic and substantially minimizing the amount of buffering of data that is required within the storage device. The resulting block decoder can be integrated into a single IC because the amount of buffering memory that is required can be economically fabricated using conventional logic fabrication processes, such as complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) processes.
Abstract:
The television receiver includes a text generation mechanism which is capable of superimposing text on a received picture. In order to make the text more legible, while still retaining picture information a reduced contrast area is formed around the text. In order to superimpose the text on the picture text, RGB signals are applied to the video output circuits together with a switching signal (VDS) which causes either text or picture signals to be applied to the display device. To provide a reduced contrast area around the text display the switching signal (VDS) is arranged to switch between the picture signal and blanking level at a fast rate, for example at the clock rate, to produce the reduced contrast area.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a system comprising a set of wireless communication nodes that are configured to operate as part of a wireless mesh network. Each respective wireless communication node may be directly coupled to at least one other wireless communication node via a respective short-hop wireless link, and at least a first pair of wireless nodes may be both (a) indirectly coupled to one another via a first communication path that comprises one or more intermediary wireless communication nodes and two or more short-hop wireless links and (b) directly coupled to one another via a first long-hop wireless link that provides a second communication path between the first pair of wireless communication nodes having a lesser number of hops than the first communication path. A fiber access point may be directly coupled to a first wireless communication node of the set of wireless communication nodes.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are improved communication systems and methods for operating in a lightly-licensed, shared frequency spectrum. In one aspect, the disclosed systems and methods may involve a small cell having a coverage area and comprising a radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC), a switch, an antenna, a power amplifier, and a low noise amplifier (LNA). A receiver RF chain of the small cell may be defined by an interconnection between the antenna, the switch, the LNA, and the RFIC, and a transmitter RF chain of the small cell may be defined by an interconnection between the RFIC, the power amplifier, the switch, and the antenna. In accordance with the present disclosure, the LNA may be configured with at least one parameter that is defined based on an uplink link-budget deficiency associated with a client terminal having a given power class and located at a given location of the coverage area.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a wireless mesh network comprised of ultra-high-capacity nodes that are capable of establishing ultra-high-capacity links (e.g., point-to-point or point-to-multipoint bi-directional communication links) using a millimeter wave spectrum, including but not limited to 28 Ghz, 39 Ghz, 37/42 Ghz, 60 Ghz (including V band), or E-band frequencies, as examples. The higher capacity and/or extended range of these ultra-high-capacity nodes/links may be achieved via various advanced signal processing techniques. Further, these ultra-high-capacity nodes/links may be used in conjunction with other types of point-to-point and/or point-to-multipoint links to build a multi-layer wireless mesh network.

Abstract:
A physiological measuring system is disclosed that monitors certain physiological parameters of an individual through the use of a body-mounted sensing apparatus. The apparatus is particularly adapted for continuous wear. The system is also adaptable or applicable to calculating derivations of such parameters. A oxygen debt measuring embodiment is directed predicting an outcome in response to injury and illness. The technique allows for closed-loop resuscitation, early identification of illness and early corrective action.
Abstract:
Video data is communicated wirelessly. In accordance with various example embodiments, a wireless video communications system and approach involves communicating video from a server to clients over an ad-hoc wireless network that is implemented for relatively high bandwidth transmission (e.g., as may be amenable for use with high-definition video). In particular example embodiments, this approach is implemented for distributing video-services data such as that received in connection with a satellite or cable television services.
