    Abstract: A light emitting diode module comprising: at least one light emitting diode structure, an integrated reflector arrangement that comprises a reflector surface for reflecting light from a light emitting area of the light emitting diode structure. The integrated reflector arrangement further comprises a back reflection surface for diffusely reflecting light emitted via a side surface of the light emitting diode structure back to the light emitting diode structure. The back reflection surface is directly attached to at least a part of the side surface such that during operation of the light emitting diode module an emission of stray light by means of the side surface is reduced. The invention further describes a corresponding method of manufacturing such a light emitting diode module. The invention finally describes a flash module, an automotive front lighting or a projection light emitting diode system comprising at least one light emitting diode module.

    Abstract: An inventive light source includes a rigid layer, a polymer layer, and a set of multiple light-emitting elements. The polymer layer is attached to the rigid layer to form a laminated structure that is transparent for visible light. The set of multiple light-emitting elements is positioned between the rigid layer and the polymer layer. Each light-emitting element includes one or more inorganic microLEDs that are arranged to generate and emit output light to propagate out-of-plane relative to a corresponding localized area of the laminated structure surrounding that light-emitting element. Each light-emitting element of the set is sufficiently small in at least one transverse dimension, and the light-emitting elements occupy a sufficiently small fraction of an areal extent of the set, so as to enable visual observation of a scene through the laminated structure along a sight line that passes through the set of light-emitting elements.

    Abstract: Display devices comprise an optionally transparent display area that extends to one or more physical boundaries (edges) of the device. The display area may be located on a front surface of the display device, and the physical boundaries of the device to which the display area extends may be formed by physical sides of the device that intersect with the front surface to define part of a perimeter of the front surface. The display area may comprise a microLED array that extends with the display area to edges of the device. Power and/or control electronics for the display device may be located adjacent the display area but away from the edges of the display device to which the display area extends. Two or more such display devices can be arranged (i.e., tiled) with their display areas adjacent, in contact, and facing the same direction to form an extended continuous microLED display area spanning the display areas of the two or more display devices.

    Abstract: Phosphor-converted LED side reflectors disclosed herein comprise pigments that are photochemically stable under illumination by light from the pcLED. The pigments absorb light in at least a portion of the spectrum of light emitted by the first phosphor converted LED. The side reflector may also comprise light scattering particles or air voids. The pigments, light scattering particles, or air voids may be homogeneously distributed in the reflector. Alternatively the side reflector may be layered, with the pigments, light scattering particles, or air voids inhomogeneously distributed in the reflector. The side reflector can include phosphor particles.

    Abstract: An inventive light source includes a substrate and a set of multiple light-emitting elements. The substrate is transparent or reflective for visible light. The light-emitting elements are positioned on or within the substrate. Each light-emitting element comprises one or more inorganic microLEDs that are arranged to generate and emit non-visible output light (e.g., infrared light) to propagate out-of-plane relative to a corresponding localized area of the substrate around that light-emitting element. Each light-emitting element of the set being sufficiently small in at least one transverse dimension, and the light-emitting elements occupying a sufficiently small fraction of an areal extent of the set, so as to enable visual observation of a scene through or reflected by the substrate along a sight line that passes through the set of light-emitting elements.
