Abstract: A braking mechanism for an electric motor includes an electromagnet configured to be selectively energized in response to a control signal. The braking mechanism also includes a first braking member coupled for co-rotation with a motor shaft of the electric motor, the first braking member being configured to selectively translate axially relative to the motor shaft between a first position and a second position. The braking mechanism also includes a second braking member located between the first braking member and the electromagnet and rotationally fixed relative to the first braking member. When the electromagnet is energized, the electromagnet causes the first braking member to translate from the first position to the second position at which the first braking member engages the second braking member to brake the electric motor.

The clutch mechanism further comprises a biasing member biasing the output member into the first position and an electromagnet which, when energized, moves the output member from the first position to the second position.

Abstract: An electric motor assembly includes a circuit board, a rotor assembly, and a stator assembly having a first end coupled to the circuit board and a second end opposite the first end. The stator assembly also includes an annular stator body having a plurality of inwardly projecting teeth. The stator assembly further includes windings wrapped about the stator body to form a plurality of coils. The stator assembly also includes a terminal coupled to an outer periphery of the stator body and extending longitudinally between the first end and the second end. The terminal is coupled to the circuit board at the first end and is coupled to the windings at the second end to electrically connect the windings to the circuit board. The terminal is molded to an attachment member, and the attachment member is molded to the outer periphery of the stator body.

Abstract: A rotary hammer includes a motor and a spindle coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor. The spindle has an adjustable rotation speed. A reciprocation mechanism is operable to create a variable pressure air spring within the spindle and includes a piston configured to reciprocate within the spindle in response to receiving torque from the motor. The piston has an adjustable reciprocation frequency. A striker is selectively reciprocable within the spindle in response to reciprocation of the piston. A first transmission is transfers torque from the motor to the spindle and a second transmission is transfers torque from the motor to the reciprocation mechanism. The reciprocation frequency of the piston is adjustable independent of the rotation speed of the spindle. The rotation speed of the spindle is adjustable independent of the reciprocation frequency of the piston. At least one of the transmissions is a multi-speed transmission.

Abstract: A rotary hammer includes a motor, a spindle coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor, a piston at least partially received within the spindle for reciprocation therein, a striker received within the spindle for reciprocation in response to reciprocation of the piston, and an anvil received within the spindle and positioned between the striker and the tool bit. The anvil is configured to impart axial impacts to the tool bit in response to reciprocation of the striker. The rotary hammer also includes a retainer received within the spindle for selectively securing the striker in an idle position in which it is inhibited from reciprocating within the spindle. The retainer includes a detent member configured to engage the striker to secure the striker in the idle position, and a tensing element configured to bias the detent member radially inward toward engagement with the striker.
