摘要： A chemical sensor utilizing a chemical receptor (for example, one stimulating the sense of taste or smell) is provided. More specifically speaking, such a receptor is introduced into cells and the cells are immobilized on a support to form a chip. This chip is then employed as a component of a sensor. This sensor shows a reaction almost the same as the body's perception of the taste or smell or sense, thereby enabling analysis. Thus, it is also usable as an artificial sensory organ. Moreover, this sensor is usable in diagnosis, which imparts a high industrial usefulness to it.

摘要： A method of polishing the end face of a ferrule on an optical connector comprises providing a polishing sheet containing abrasive grains and providing a polishing fluid containing abrasive grains having a hardness greater than that of the abrasive grains of the polishing sheet. The end face of the ferrule including an optical fiber is pressed against a surface of the polishing sheet while effecting relative movement between the ferrule and the polishing sheet and while supplying the polishing fluid onto the surface of the polishing sheet.

摘要： In a method of grinding a ferrule, a ferrule is provided having a leading end portion having a surface disposed generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the ferrule. A grinding device is provided having a rotational base, an elastic member disposed on the base for rotation therewith, and a grinding sheet disposed on the elastic member for rotation therewith. The surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is brought into contact with a grinding surface of the grinding sheet. The base of the grinding device is then rotated until the surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is ground into a spherical surface. The spherical surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is then brought into contact with the grinding surface of the grinding sheet so that the longitudinal axis of the ferrule is inclined relative to the grinding surface. The base of the grinding device is then rotated until the spherical surface of the leading end portion of the ferrule is ground into a spherical surface so that the longitudinal axis of the ferrule is inclined relative to a tangent passing through a vertex of the spherical surface.

摘要： An end-face polishing and cleaning apparatus comprises at least one jig plate for supporting ferrules each fixed to an end of a respective optical fiber. At least one set of a polishing machine and a cleaning machine is provided for polishing and cleaning the end-faces of the ferrules while the ferrules are supported by the jig plate. A movable mounting device supports the jig plate and moves the jig plate between the polishing machine and the cleaning machine to polish and clean the end-faces of the ferrules. The movable mounting device has a holding member for supporting the jig plate, an elevation shaft for moving the holding member in a vertical direction, and a moving device for moving the holding member in a horizontal direction.

摘要： In a joint transform correlator, a technique that performs a correlation processing between two-dimensional images by using a coherent beam, this invention forms a feedback system in which two-dimensional correlation coefficients between at least one reference image and at least one signal image obtained as a result of a correlation processing are input to a linear or non-linear transfer function and in which the intensities of light passing through the reference images corresponding to the correlation coefficients are virtually changed according to the output of the transfer function. And then in this condition a similar correlation processing is performed. This loop of processing is repeated. In this case, when, in addition to an expression of the transfer function, other items--which include a dynamic range of the transfer function and a non-linear transfer function are used, the threshold values are changed according to such conditions as the number and kind of reference images and the distribution of correlation coefficients.
