Abstract:
A label for tracking and tracing baggage in a baggage handling system is disclosed. The label includes resonators doped into the label. The resonators providing the label with a unique signature and are capable of being read from approximately 2 meters. A baggage handling system incorporating a resonator based label system is also disclosed. The system includes at least one piece of baggage, a label for tracking and tracing baggage in the baggage handling system, at least one reader for reading the label in order to properly direct the attached at least one piece of baggage, and at least one baggage mover suitable for moving the at least one piece of baggage within the baggage handling system. The label includes resonators doped into the label that provide the label with a unique signature, the label being attached to and referenced with said at least one piece of baggage.
Abstract:
A system and method for verifying that a document is included in a document management system is disclosed. This system and method includes scanning of a scan track of a document, generating document data dependently upon the scanning, comparing the generated document data to stored document data, the stored document data generated dependently upon a prior scanning of the scan track of the document, and outputting an indication of the document being included in the document management system as determined by the comparing.
Abstract:
A method for forming a radio frequency responsive target formed of a pattern of thin dipoles, each of which has a position and angular orientation within the pattern, which produce a composite analog radio frequency signal in response to an interrogating signal. A first metallic film layer is deposited on top of a non-conductive substrate, an etchant resistant pattern correspondent to the thin dipole pattern is deposited on top of the first metallic film layer, and a second metallic layer occupying the first metallic layer in at least one area without etchant is applied on top of the first metallic film layer. The etchant resistant pattern is removed to expose portions of the first metallic film layer, and the second metallic layer and the exposed portions of the first metallic film layer are etched simultaneously.
Abstract:
A radio frequency automatic identification system detects targets which include a plurality of radio frequency resonators. Information is attributed to the target in accordance with the radio frequency response characteristics of the target, such as the resonant frequencies of resonators present, and/or the spatial locations within the target of the resonators. Preferred resonators include thin dipoles, which may be metallizations on a plastic film substrate. Information may be attributed to a target by fabricating the target with resonators disposed at locations to encode information in accordance with a predetermined encoding system; alternatively, resonators may be randomly disposed, and a translation code applied to convert the radio frequency information to particular information in a particular format. Readers for use in the system read the radio frequency response characteristics of a target in the near field of a radiating aperture which is illuminated by a radio frequency source. Items which may be encoded with radio frequency readable information include documents, credit cards, and computer diskettes.
Abstract:
A bio-sensor device for the electrochemical detection of a bacterial pathogen, the device including a sample chamber and an electronic data module. The sample chamber includes passive sensing probes to detect pathogenic antigens in a sample containing the bacterial pathogen. The probes detect a reaction voltage corresponding to an antigen-antibody reaction occurring when the pathogenic antigens come into contact with an antibody specific for pathogenic antigens present in in the contents of the sample chamber and contacted by the electrical probes. The electronic data module detects and processes electrical signals detected by the conductive electrical probes corresponding to an amount of the antigen present in the sample, wherein the reaction voltage is detected at the time of the reaction.
Abstract:
A device confirms the presence of liquid via signals received from a sensor. The device provides for the confirmation of the presence of liquid in a sleeping or resting environment. The detection and alerting of unintended liquid present in a sleeping environment alerts a third party to the presence of such liquid by remote means. The device is further enabled to detect a liquid pattern change over time.
