摘要: Methods and apparatus associated with storing data in high or low energy zones are described. Example apparatus include a data storage system (DSS) that protects a message using an erasure code (EC). A location in the DSS may have an energy efficiency rating or a latency. Example apparatus include logics that produce an EC that has a likelihood of use, that select a location to store the EC in the DSS based on the energy efficiency rating, the latency, or the likelihood of use, that store the EC in the location, and that compute an order of retrieval for an EC stored in the location. The order of retrieval may be based on the energy efficiency rating or the latency. The EC may also have a priority based on the number of erasures for which the EC corrects.

The media conditioner (255) is configured to condition the magnetic tape (250) when the tape cartridge (220) is received within the drive housing (226A). The media conditioner (255) can be configured to remove at least one of abrasives, contaminants and lubricants that are on the magnetic tape (250) when the tape cartridge (220) is received within the drive housing (226A). The magnetic tape (250) is configured to move along a predefined path (251) within the drive housing (226A), which is defined by one or more rollers (254). The rollers (254) can include a modified roller (270) having a roller body (274) and an outer coating (276) that is affixed on an outer surface (274A) of the roller body (274). The media conditioner (255) can include the modified roller (270).

The media drive information includes drive performance metrics generated by the media drive (26) during a read verify procedure performed by the media drive (26) upon request of the library control system (30) of the media library (10).

The magnetic tape is usable within the tape library to measure a health of the one or more tape drives and/or confirm a suitability of an operating environment within the tape library in terms of at least one of temperature and humidity. The calibrated data in the first tape section can be further configured for evaluating total transverse dimensional stability on the magnetic tape. The first tape section can include predetermined error patterns to assist in evaluating the data durability on the magnetic tape and/or periodic tape scrubbing operations to enhance data durability on the magnetic tape.

摘要: A tape media cartridge includes a cartridge housing having a standard form factor, a cartridge reel that is coupled to and retained within the cartridge and a tape media. The tape media can be selectively wound onto the cartridge reel between a fully wound state, a partially wound state and an unwound state. The tape media forms a media hollow cylinder having a media outer diameter and a media inner diameter that varies depending upon the state of the tape media. When the tape media is in the fully wound state, the tape media has a ratio of the media outer diameter to media inner diameter of at least approximately 95:43. The cartridge housing can include a side wall having a wall center and wall edge, the side wall having a side wall thickness that gradually increases from the side wall center to the side wall edge.

摘要: Embodiments include a data aware deduplicating object store. The data aware deduplicating data store includes a consistent hashing logic that manages a consistent hashing architecture for the object store. The consistent hashing architecture includes a metadata ring and a bulk ring. The consistent hashing architecture may be a multiple ring architecture comprising a metadata ring and two or more bulk rings. A bulk ring may include a key/value (k/v) data store, where a k/v data store stores a shard of an index and a reference count that facilitates the individual approach to garbage collection or data reclamation. The data aware deduplicating data store also includes a deduplication logic that provides data deduplication for data to be stored in the object store. The deduplication logic performs variable length deduplication and provides a shared nothing approach.
