Abstract:
Relatively short chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating or transalkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a relatively short chain alkylating or transalkylating agent under sufficient reaction conditions in the presence of catalyst comprising an acidic solid material which comprises a Group IVB metal oxide, such as zirconia, modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal, such as tungsten.
Abstract:
A process for the conversion of toluene to xylenes by alkylation with methanol over an acidic solid catalyst with a Group IVB metal oxide modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal.
Abstract:
There is provided a process for ring opening of aromatics or cycloaliphatics, as well as isomerization of aliphatics. The feedstream to this process comprises hydrocarbons having 6 carbon atoms. The process involves the use of a recycle stream containing a source of chlorine, such as carbon tetrachloride, and this process involves the use of at least two reactors connected in series. The first reactor comprises a ring opening catalyst and is operated under conditions which particularly promote ring opening. The catalyst in this first reactor may comprise zirconia modified with tungstate and platinum. A second, downstream reactor is operated under conditions to promote isomerization of aliphatics. The catalyst in the second reactor may comprise alumina, platinum and a chloride component. The catalysts in both the first and second reactors are chlorine resistant.
Abstract:
There is provided a process for preparing tercyclohexane by reacting benzene with hydrogen. The process involves the use of a catalyst comprising an acidic solid and a hydrogenation component. The acidic solid may comprise a Group IVB metal oxide, such as zirconia, modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal, such as tungsten. The hydrogenation component may comprise platinum.
Abstract:
A catalyst comprising a molecular sieve having a lattice aluminum content in which the silica/alumina framework mole ratio is less than 55, and having a diffusion rate constant of less than about 150 sec.sup.-1 .times.10.sup.-6 is particularly useful for vapor-phase disproportionation of toluene.
Abstract:
There is provided a hydrocracking process using a catalyst comprising a hydrogenation/dehydrogenation component, such as a noble metal, and an acidic solid component comprising a Group IVB metal oxide modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal. An example of this catalyst is zirconia, modified with tungstate and platinum. This catalyst is used to selectively hydrocrack naphtha range hydrocarbons to reduce the endpoint of reformulated gasolines.
Abstract:
There is provided a method for preparing an acidic solid comprising a Group IVB metal oxide modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal. An example of this acidic solid is zirconia, modified with tungstate. This modified solid oxide may be used as a catalyst, for example, to isomerize C.sub.4 to C.sub.8 paraffins. The modified solid oxide is treated with hydrogen at elevated temperatures to enhance catalytic properties of the material.
Abstract:
Long chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a long chain alkylating agent in the presence of a catalyst comprising an acidic solid material which comprises a Group IVB metal oxide, such as zirconia, modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal, such as tungstate.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for modifying a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having a Constraint Index of from about to about 12 which comprises:a) steaming the as synthesized crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite containing organic template material to decompose at least a portion of said template material and to extract zeolitic aluminum; and,b) contacting the zeolite resulting from step (a) in the ammonium, alkali metal or hydrogen form with a dealuminizing agent which forms a water-soluble complex with aluminum to remove a further quantity of zeolitic aluminum therefrom.
Abstract:
There is provided a catalytic oligomerization process. The process involves the use of a catalyst comprising an acidic solid. The acidic solid may comprise a Group IVB metal oxide, such as zirconia, modified with an oxyanion of a Group VIB metal, such as tungsten. The oligomers produced by this process may be hydrogenated to produce thermally stable lubricants and lubricant additives, gasoline and diesel.
