Abstract: An image display apparatus includes laser light sources, a light combining section that combines laser light from the laser light sources, and an optical scanner that deflects drawing laser light from the light combining section for two-dimensional scanning. The optical axes of the laser light outputted from the laser light sources and directed toward the optical scanner are present in the same plane. Further, the optical scanner has a light reflection surface configured to be perpendicular to the plane when the optical scanner is not driven. The optical scanner deflects the drawing laser light reflected off the light reflection surface for two-dimensional scanning by causing the light reflection surface to swing within the plane and in the direction perpendicular to the plane.

Abstract: An image display device includes a video light generation unit that generates video light, a light scanner, and a diffraction optical element. The light scanner performs main scanning of the video light in a first direction and a sub-scanning in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. A center of an amplitude of the main scanning and a center of an amplitude of the sub-scanning is provided as an intersection point. The diffraction optical element diffracts the video light incident on the element and emits the video light toward one eye of an observer. A normal line extends normal from the diffraction optical element at the intersection point. The normal line is inclined with respect to a virtual plane such that light reflected from a surface of the diffraction optical element is non-incident on the other eye of the observer.

Abstract: An optical scanning apparatus that scans a light beam from a light source includes: a movable portion and a fixed portion. The movable portion includes: a rotating member, which is capable of rotating about a rotation axis being parallel with an optical axis of the light beam, has an open hole through which the light beam passes, and is provided with a first coil; and a mirror that is provided to the rotating member, electrically connected with the first coil, and reflects the light beam that passes through the open hole of the rotating member in a variable angle with respect to the optical axis of the light beam.
