摘要:
The present invention relates to isocyanate functional prepolymers, aqueous polyurethane dispersions produced from the prepolymers and various uses of such dispersions. The prepolymers are prepared by reacting a diisocyanate, a dihydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 16,000, and a trihydroxy component of the formula: R—(OH)3 where R is a saturated straight chain or branched chain aliphatic group of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The invention also relates to polyurethane dispersions prepared from the prepolymers and to various uses of the resultant dispersions.

Isocyanate-functional polyurethane prepolymers and aqueous dispersions therefrom which are useful for the production of flat materials having excellent resistance to alcoholic solvents are described. The prepolymers are prepared by reacting: A) an isocyanate selected from the group consisting of i) an aliphatic and/or a cycloaliphatic isocyanate, ii) a mixture of an aromatic isocyanate and an aliphatic and/or a cycloaliphatic isocyanate, B) a di- or polyhydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of from 700 to about 16,000, and C) optionally, a dihydroxy and/or polyhydroxyl compound having a number average molecular weight of less than 700, with the provisos that a) at least one of components A), B or C) has a functionality of more than 2 and b) if both component A) and component B) are difunctional, component C) cannot be a trihydroxy component of the formula: R—(OH)3 where R is a saturated straight chain or branched chain aliphatic group of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms.

The present invention is directed to a biuret group-containing polyisocyanate composition having an isocyanate functionality of at least 4 prepared by a process comprising reacting a polyisocyanate adduct which a) is prepared from an aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic diisocyanate; b) has an average isocyanate functionality of at least 2.5, and c) contains isocyanurate groups, with a secondary monoamine at an isocyanate to amine equivalent ratio of from about 4:1 to about 14:1 to incorporate biuret groups into said polyisocyanate. The invention is also directed to a blocked biuret group-containing polyisocyanate composition which is prepared by reacting the biuret-containing polyisocyanate with a blocking agent.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing aqueous polyurethane dispersions in a multi-step process by forming an NCO prepolymer bya) reacting a cyclic diisocyanate with a compound containing one or two isocyanate-reactive groups and at least one carboxylic acid or carboxylate group at a molar ratio of cyclic diisocyanate to compound containing one isocyanate-reactive group of at least 1:1 or a molar ratio of cyclic diisocyanate to compound containing two isocyanate-reactive groups of at least 1.5:1,b) adding a non-cyclic diisocyanate having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, a high molecular weight polyol having a number average molecular weight of 400 to 6000, optionally an isocyanate-reactive compound containing non-ionic hydrophilic groups and optionally an at least difunctional isocyanate-reactive compound having a number average molecular weight of less than 400 in amounts such that i) the molar ratio of cyclic diisocyanate to non-cyclic diisocyanate is 4:6 to 9:1 and ii) the overall equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups to isocyanate-reactive groups to prepare the NCO prepolymer is 1.1:1 to 2:1,c) dispersing the NCO prepolymer in water,d) neutralizing at least a portion of any carboxylic acid groups either before, during or after step c) ande) optionally adding a polyamine chain extender that contains a maximum of one unblocked primary or secondary amino group to the water either before, during or after the addition of the NCO prepolymer. The present invention is also directed to the aqueous polyurethane dispersions prepared by this process.
