    Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems to facilitate selection of a donor base station to serve a relay node (RN). In particular, a base station system (BSS) may include a plurality of base stations each operable to serve user equipment devices (UEs) and operable to serve an RN. The RN is in turn operable to serve UEs. According to the disclosure, a controlling entity may determine both (i) a type of content communicated between the BSS and UEs served by the BSS (BSS-served content type) and (ii) a type of content communicated between the RN and UEs served by the RN (RN-served content type). Based on both the determined BSS-served content type and the determined RN-served content type, the controlling entity may select one of the plurality of base stations to serve the RN and may cause the selected base station to serve the RN.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling service by a base station when the base station is serving both a first UE without carrier aggregation and a plurality of second UEs with carrier aggregation. As a basis for invoking carrier aggregation service for the first UE, the base station selects one of the second UEs to transition from being served by the base station with carrier aggregation to being served by the base station without carrier aggregation. The base station makes such a selection based at least in part on a modulation and coding scheme that the base station uses to serve the selected one of the second UEs. The base station transitions from serving the selected second UE with carrier aggregation to serving the selected second UE without carrier aggregation. And the base station transitions from serving the first UE without carrier aggregation to serving the first UE with carrier aggregation.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for balancing control channel resource allocations between base stations. As disclosed, a first base station provides a first downlink control channel including a first set of air interface resources and a second base station provides a second downlink control channel including a second set of air interface resources, the first set of air interface resources and the second set of air interface resources being mutually exclusive. Upon detecting a threshold difference between (i) an extent of a capacity of the first downlink control channel being unused and (ii) an extent of a capacity of the second downlink control channel being unused, the system may change allocation resources between downlink control channels such that (i) capacity of one of the first and second downlink control channels is increased and (ii) capacity of the other one of the first and second downlink control channels is decreased.

    Abstract: A method and system for setting a hold-timer duration is disclosed. The method involves a first network initially serving a UE by providing the UE with data service, wherein serving the UE includes allocating at least one resource to the UE and using the at least one resource to serve the UE. The method further involves, setting a hold-timer duration for a hold-timer for release of the at least one resource that the first network allocated to the UE, wherein setting the hold-timer duration comprises (i) making at least one determination selected from the group consisting of (a) a determination of a network load of the first network, (b) a determination of a data-service type of the data service, and (c) a determination of an estimated call duration for the UE and (ii) using the at least one determination as a basis to set the hold-timer duration.
