Abstract: A caregiver assistance system is disclosed for assisting a caregiver to ensure the beds of high fall risk patients are in desired states for reducing the likelihood of a patient falling. The system may also help the caregiver to perform rounding tasks. The system comprises a server in communication with the patients' beds and one or more mobile electronic devices (e.g. smart phones). The mobile devices receive answers to a plurality of fall risk questions and forward them to the server. The server generates a patient fall risk assessment from the answers, determines a desired state for fall-risk components of the bed if the patient fall risk assessment indicates the patient has a high risk of falling, compares the states of the fall-risk components to corresponding desired states, and issues an alert at the mobile device if any of the fall-risk components are not in their desired state.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus system and patient support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, operating table, recliner, or the like, include a litter frame, a support deck, a sensor configured to detect caregiver activity, a transceiver communicating with a server, and a controller. The controller is configured to send alerts or messages to the server when caregiver assignment errors or caregiver inattention issues are identified. An alert is sent when a caregiver has not attended to a patient within a certain period of time, or when a caregiver has not been assigned to a particular patient or a particular location within a healthcare facility to which a patient has been assigned. The patient support apparatus and system are in communication with other healthcare facility systems and devices that gather and share information and data to alert caregivers in an effort to avoid patient neglect.

Abstract: A caregiver assistance system is disclosed for helping caregivers manage the care of existing bed sores and/or reduce the risk of a patient developing bed sores. The system may also help the caregiver to perform rounding tasks and/or to reduce the likelihood of patient falls. The system comprises a server application in communication with the patient's bed and one or more mobile electronic devices (e.g. smart phones). The mobile devices receive individual assessments of a plurality of bed sore risk factors and forward them to the server. The server generates bed sore risk scores from the answers and forward them to an EMR server. The server may also determine one or more risk reduction steps, display them on the mobile electronic device, and/or forward them to the patients' beds for implementation thereon. Additional bed sore information may be captured and sent to the EMR.

Abstract: A caregiver assistance system helps caregivers manage the care of patients and the beds that support the patients. The system monitors tasks associated with the patients, such as caregiver rounding tasks, bed sore assessments, and/or fall risk assessments, and forwards completed tasks to an EMR server. The system also monitors the state of the beds and determines compliance with one or more healthcare facility protocols. Over time, the system gathers data from multiple beds regarding how often the beds are in compliance with the healthcare facility protocols and produces reports of the compliance levels to assist administrators in managing their healthcare facilities. The system may further monitor how quickly caregivers responds to one or more alert conditions relating to the beds and/or patients, and generate reports for the administrators regarding such response times. In some embodiments, the system may further provide instructions to caregivers for operating features of the bed and/or compliance with healthcare facility protocols.

Abstract: Patient support apparatuses include a frame, support surface, and a controller. The controller provides notification to a user of a service event relating to the patient support apparatus. The controller limits functionality of a component of the patient support apparatus based upon a severity of the service event. The controller may also, or alternatively, detect when a control is activated by a user and, in response to such activation, determine whether the patient support apparatus has been marked for use or marked for servicing. If marked for use, the controller responds in a first manner, and if marked for service, the controller responds in a different manner. In other embodiments, a method is provided for determining an order in which multiple patient support apparatuses should be service. In still other embodiments, the patient support apparatus automatically changes to an unusable configuration when in need of high priority service.

Abstract: A caregiver assistance system for assisting a caregiver in a healthcare facility to perform his or her rounding duties comprises a server in communication with one or more patient beds and one or more electronic devices (e.g. smart phones) that are remote from the beds and that include a display, a user input, and a web browser. The server executes a caregiver assistance application that causes the electronic device to perform the following actions after the web browser of the electronic device accesses a particular URL whose content and function are controlled by the caregiver assistance application: (a) display rounding information on the display relating to a patient associated with the bed, and (b) forward a completion indication to the caregiver assistance application wherein the completion indication is generated in response to a caregiver manipulating the user input when the caregiver has completed a rounding task associated with the patient.
