    摘要: An exhaust apparatus for and engine is mounted on a vehicle, which includes an engine compartment, a passenger compartment, a dash panel, which separates the engine compartment and the passenger compartment from each other, a floor panel of the passenger compartment, and a seat, which includes a bottom arranged on the floor panel. A recess is formed in the lower surface of the floor panel located below the bottom. The exhaust apparatus includes an exhaust passage, which extends from the engine compartment to below the floor panel, a catalytic converter located in the exhaust passage, and a muffler located in the exhaust passage. The catalytic converter is located forward of the dash panel. The muffler is accommodated in the recess. It is preferable that the seat be located at the front portion of the vehicle, the recess be located below the seat, and the muffler be accommodated in the recess.

    摘要: A muffler is disposed in an exhaust pipe extending from an internal combustion engine along a bottom side of a vehicle. The muffler includes a cylindrical outer shell having a pair of openings defined at opposing axial ends of the outer shell and a pair of outer plates each secured to the corresponding one of the opposing ends of the outer shell. The muffler has an interior defined by the outer plates and the outer shell. The muffler further includes an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe each supported by the corresponding one of the outer plates and extending in the interior of the muffler. Each of the inlet and outlet pipes has a curved portion. The curved portion is accommodated in the interior of the muffler. Accordingly, the muffler is configured relatively simple and has improved durability.

Alternatively, the apparatus include a flow passage extending from the bottom hole to the evaporator opening and constricted partially by the seat and a bottom of the floating valve. Thus, gases are less likely to float the floating valve upward, but liquids are likely to float it upward.

    摘要: A fuel-vapor emission-control system for an internal combustion engine which is capable of achieving both a reduction of the exhaust of vapor into the atmosphere and the prevention of an excessive increase in pressure within the fuel tank, regardless of the amount of internal pressure in the fuel tank, by providing on an atmospheric release port of the canister which adsorbs vapor adsorbed from the fuel tank of the internal combustion engine, thereby preventing release of the vapor into the atmosphere, an atmospheric release surface area changing valve which changes the surface area of an aperture to the atmosphere. The atmospheric release surface area valve operates to make the atmospheric release surface area larger when the internal pressure in the fuel tank is large than when the internal pressure in the fuel tank is small. The atmospheric release surface area changing valve can be configured as a mechanical type of pressure-sensitive valve which opens when the internal pressure in the canister exceeds a set value, and can also be configured as an electromagnetic valve, the degree of opening of which can be electrically varied in response to a detected value of vapor pressure within the system to thereby change the atmospheric release surface area.
