摘要: Detection capability of a servo timing mark (STM) is improved. Long STM is configured by pseudo-STM forming part of an AGC/PLL pattern and intrinsic STM. When a system can not recognize the intrinsic STM, it keeps a state that a sector detection window is opened, and is operated in a long STM detection mode to recognize the long STM, thereby generates an STM detection signal. After the STM detection signal has been generated, an STM detection window is closed, and the system is operated in an intrinsic STM detection mode. Since the long STM has longer bit length than the intrinsic STM, it has high discriminating power with respect to other bit patterns. Therefore, even if the sector detection window is remained to be in an opened state, bit strings of data sector, address information in a servo sector or the like is not falsely recognized.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide a disk drive capable of reducing, by means of simple control, vibrations applied to the drive and vibrations occurring in the drive, and a control method for controlling the disk drive. In one embodiment, a servo system comprises a sensor unit for detecting vibrations, a correction signal generator for, when the sensor unit detects vibrations, generating a correction signal, a position error signal generator for generating a PES signal on the basis of servo data read out from a disk and a target position, a servo controller for generating a servo control signal for controlling a position of a head on the basis of the PES signal, and a servo controller for generating a driving signal on the basis of the correction signal and the servo control signal. The correction signal generator includes a plurality of filters, each of which eliminates vibrations in each different frequency band, the correction signal generator selecting one or two or more RV-FF filters when vibrations are detected, and then generating a correction signal so as to reduce a position error indicated by the PES signal.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide control of a disk data storage device to prevent off-track writing. In one embodiment, the SA acquires the CYLIDs and ADC Values generated from the SERVO SIGNALs acquired previously, and generates DACOUT which defines a driving current of the VCM driver. The SA monitors the DACOUT generated and determines whether the DACOUT is within a predefined range. If the DACOUT is outside the predefined range, data writing is inhibited. By monitoring the DACOUT, it is possible for the VCM driver to detect supply of an overcurrent to the VCM driver 210 beforehand, and off-track writing can thus be prevented.

摘要: To provide a semiconductor laser device for which a horizontal divergence angle of a laser beam can be improved independently of optimization of other properties such as a cladding layer thickness and a current injected region size. A current blocking layer covers a larger area of a p-type second cladding layer and p-type cap layer extending in a resonator length direction, on a light emitting end face side than on an opposite end face side. Thus, current uninjected regions are formed in an optical waveguide. The current blocking layer (current uninjected region) on the light emitting end face side is set long enough to prevent carriers, which flow in from a current injected region, from reaching alight emitting end face. In this way, a light intensity distribution of a near-field pattern on the light emitting end face is concentrated, thereby increasing a horizontal divergence angle of a laser beam.

摘要: A semiconductor laser includes an active layer formed on a substrate and a pair of cladding layers sandwiching the active layer. On at least one of resonator end faces of the semiconductor laser, a first dielectric film with hydrogen added therein is provided. Between the first dielectric film and the resonator end face, a second dielectric film for suppressing the diffusion of hydrogen is provided. Even when a semiconductor laser with an end face coating film including a hydrogen-added film is exposed to high temperatures, peeling of the end face coating film and deterioration of the end face coating film can be suppressed.

摘要: A disk drive with the capability to prevent off-track writing with reduced false triggering is described. An improved method of predicting the position of a head is used to determine whether the head is on or off-track. A position error signal at an nth servo position Pn and a velocity Vn at the nth servo position (Vn=Pn−Pn−1) are calculated using values read at the nth and n−1 head positions. Based on these Pn and Vn and on the output of the servo controller at the nth servo position Un, the predicted PESn+1 is calculated as: Predicted PESn+1=Pn+Vn+kUn where k is a constant. Data is inhibited from being written between the nth servo position and the (n+1) servo position, when absolute values of the calculated Pn, Vn, and predicted PESn+1 meet any condition of the following conditions (1) through (3): (1) |Pn|>C1, (2) |Vn|>C2, and (3) |Predicted PESn+1>C3 where C1, C2, and C3 are constants determined for the embodiment.

摘要: A hard disk has a servo loop and a rotating storage medium. The rotating storage medium has one or more significant flutter modes at frequencies below a zero cross frequency of a rejection transfer function of the servo loop. The effect of the forgoing is to allow the servo loop to better track a rotating medium that is subject to significant flutter. Peak filters with frequency bands that substantially overlap frequency bands of the significant flutter modes can also be added to the servo loop to further improve tracking. Multiple narrow band filters with frequency bands overlap can be used to cover the spectrum of a single flutter mode. Two lag-lead filters, the frequency responses of which overlap can be used to cover two adjacent significant flutter modes. At frequencies intermediate to the two adjacent flutter, modes, the lead caused by one filter, will be cancelled by the lag caused by the second.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for decomposing any of chlorocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and SF.sub.6 contained in a gas. This method includes the step of bringing the gas into contact, at a temperature of at least 300.degree. C., with a first mixture consisting essentially of 0.05-40 wt % of potassium hydroxide and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of alkali-earth-metal oxides and alkali-earth-metal hydroxides, for decomposing the at least one halide compound. When the halide compound-containing gas further contains oxygen, this gas may be brought into contact, at a temperature of at least 500.degree. C., with at least one first substance selected from the group consisting of active carbon, iron powder and nickel powder, for removing the oxygen from the gas, prior to the halide compound decomposition. When the halide compound-containing gas still further contains a strong oxidizing gas (e.g., fluorine), this gas may be brought into contact, at a temperature of at least 300.degree. C., with at least one second substance selected from the group consisting of Si, Ti, Ge, W, Mo, Fe, Mn, Co, Zn, Sn, B, Zr and compounds of these elements, except oxides of these elements, such that the oxidizing gas turns into a compound that is not reactive with the at least one first substance. According to this method, it is possible to decompose halide compounds contained within a gas, using a smaller equipment, at a lower temperature, as compared with conventional methods.

摘要: A method of, and apparatus for, the continuous casting of molten metals, especially steel, wherein the molten metal is delivered through the agency of a multiplicity of pouring tubes having outlet or discharge openings inclined at a predetermined angle to the horizontal into the molten metal bath contained within a continuous casting mold. A deflecting wall or baffle means between the pouring tubes controls the flow of the molten metal in the mold. The method of continuously casting molten metal contemplates providing baffle means between a plurality of oppositely situated pouring tubes immersed in the molten metal bath of the continuous casting mold, feeding the molten metal through the pouring tubes in the form of casting jets entering the continuous casting mold through outlet openings of the pouring tubes, and directing the outflowing metal casting jets so as to impact against the baffle means in order to control the flow of metal in the continuous casting mold.
