Abstract: A method is provided for an agent in a virtual machine (VM) and an application policy manager to implement application monitoring and remediation. The application policy manager provides a user interface for defining policies for applications running on VMs where each policy includes monitoring conditions and remediation for the monitoring conditions. The application policy manager receives a policy for an application on the VM and sends it to the agent. The agent monitors the application based on the policy. When the agent detects a monitoring condition, the agent sends an alert identifying the application and the monitoring condition directly or indirectly to an events and alarms manager that records the alert, sends a log generated by the application to an email address or to an log analyzer that analyzes the log to determine a cause of the monitoring condition, and performs a remediation for the monitoring condition.

Abstract: An example method to deploy a web client plugin in a virtualized computing environment may include obtaining information identifying a virtual machine at a management entity and generating configuration information that includes the information identifying the virtual machine. The method may further include registering, with the management entity, the configuration information to deploy the web client plugin as a web client extension. The registration is performed such that, in response to an access to the virtual machine via the web client plugin, the web client plugin is able to automatically identify the virtual machine based on the configuration information.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a method for exposing object storage as a service. The method generally includes receiving, by an object service proxy provisioned for providing the service, a request to access a first object in an object store, wherein the object store leverages a percentage of datastore capacity for a datastore, determining, by the object service proxy, both of: an identifier of a container in the object store comprising the first object and an internet protocol (IP) address associated with an object protocol service provisioned to access the container comprising the first object, re-directing, by the object service proxy, the request to access the first object to the object protocol service using the IP address associated with the object protocol service, wherein the request comprises the identifier of the container and in response to re-directing the request, receiving the first object from the object protocol service.

Abstract: An adaptive idle detection method determines whether software defined data centers (SDDCs) in a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) environment are idle. Idleness may be quantified via a coefficient of variation (CV) against resource usage, so as to adapt the idle detection method to SDDCs with different hardware specifications and workloads. Management overhead may also be filtered out by the idle detection method, and the idle detection method may use idleness scores to further reduce overhead.

Abstract: A failure analysis system identifies a root cause of a failure (or other health issue) in a virtualized computing environment and provides a recommendation for remediation. The failure analysis system uses a model-based reasoning (MBR) approach that involves building a model describing the relationships/dependencies of elements in the various layers of the virtualized computing environment, and the model is used by an inference engine to generate facts and rules for reasoning to identify an element in the virtualized computing environment that is causing the failure. Then, then the failure analysis system uses a decision tree analysis (DTA) approach to perform a deep diagnosis of the element, by traversing a decision tree that was generated by combining the rules for reasoning provided by the MBR approach, in conjunction with examining data collected by health monitors. The result of the DTA approach is then used to generate the recommendation for remediation.

Abstract: One example method to support Internet small computer system interface (iSCSI) services in a distributed storage system of a virtualization system may include receiving a notification of a change event associated with a global virtual Internet Protocol (VIP) object, wherein the global VIP object is associated with a virtual IP address for the iSCSI services. The method may also include in response to a first determination that the first host machine does not own the global VIP object and in response to a second determination that the first host machine gains ownership of the global VIP object based on the notification, locking the global VIP object and binding the virtual IP address to the first host machine.

Abstract: System and method for automatic remediation for a distributed file system uses a file system (FS) remediation module running in a cluster management server and FS remediation agents running in a cluster of host computers. The FS remediation module monitors the cluster of host computers for related events. When a first file system service (FSS)-impacting event is detected, a cluster-level remediation action is executed at the cluster management server by the FS remediation module in response to the detected first FSS-impacting event. When a second FSS-impacting event is detected, a host-level remediation action is executed at one or more of the host computers in the cluster by the FS remediation agents in response to the detected second FSS-impacting event.

Abstract: The disclosure herein describes enabling use of a logical unit for data storage in a distributed storage system using a plurality of backend data objects. Based on receiving instructions to create a logical unit of a logical unit size, a target backend object size to be used with the logical unit is determined, and a plurality of backend objects for allocation to the logical unit is calculated. The backend objects are allocated to the logical unit and a metadata mapping associated with the logical unit is generated. The metadata mapping associates logical block addresses of the logical unit to the allocated backend objects. The logical unit is linked with the metadata mapping in an input/output (I/O) service and, based on the linked metadata mapping, I/O traffic is routed to and from the logical unit. Using multiple backend objects enhances flexibility and efficiency of data storage on the distributed storage system.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a method for an interference detection RAN application deployed across one or more RICs for detecting and identifying external interference in a RAN that includes multiple RAN base stations servicing users located across multiple regions, each region including at least one RAN base station. The method is performed for a particular region serviced by a particular RAN base station. The method detects an interference incident associated with the particular region. The method analyzes a pattern of spectrum interference associated with the particular region. Based on said analysis, the method determines whether the pattern of spectrum interference matches a first signature pattern associated with internal interference or a second signature pattern associated with external interference. When the pattern of spectrum interference matches the second signature pattern, the method generates an alert to notify an operator of the particular RAN base station of the external interference.

Abstract: One example method to perform object-based load balancing in a distributed storage system of a virtualization system supported by a cluster of host machines may include determining, by a first host machine in the cluster, whether any host machine in the cluster has affinity to a site. The method may also include determining, by the first host machine, whether to distribute affinity Internet small computer system interface (iSCSI) targets owned by the first host machine to at least the second machine based on a first balance objective associated with the site, and after having considered the first balance objective, determining, by the first host machine, whether to distribute iSCSI targets without affinity owned by the first host machine to other host machines in the cluster based on a second balance objective associated with the cluster.
