Abstract: A medical system for assisting with an intubation procedure for a patient. The system comprising airflow sensors configured to obtain data indicative of airflow in the patient's airway and physiological sensors configured to obtain information regarding airflow in the patient's lungs. The system further including a monitoring device communicatively coupled to the airflow sensors and the physiological sensors. The patient monitoring device comprising at least one processor coupled to memory and configured to: provide a user interface on a display and assist the rescuer in determining proper placement of an endotracheal tube, receive the data indicative of the airflow in the patient's airway, receive the physiological information regarding the airflow in the patient's lungs, and determine whether the tube is properly placed based on the received physiological information, and present an output of the determination of whether the ET tube was properly placed.

Abstract: Ventilator enables operator to enter into the microprocessor estimate of a patient's individual characteristic, such as weight, which the microprocessor uses to control delivered tidal volume and other parameters to match the patient. The operator can select one of several ventilator operational modes (intube, mask, CPR). Sensors input data to the microprocessor to maintain parameter optimizations and accuracy. Visual/audible alarms and tools activate when one or more parameters exceed or fail to exceed predetermined values for patient's weight. Manual over-ride is available. The ventilator has a quick start capability in which the operator turns on power, selects the automatic operating mode, enters patient's characteristic, selects control option starting automatic ventilation of proper volumes inhalation/exhalation periods, pressure, and oxy-air mixture.

Abstract: A life support and monitoring apparatus with malfunction correction guidance is provided. The life support and monitoring apparatus of the present disclosure identifies the root cause or potential cause of a fault/failure and then prompts an operator to take appropriate steps to assure the continuance of life support and critical physiologic monitoring. When multiple faults/failures exist, the apparatus automatically prioritizes them based on risk to the patient and prompts the operator to do the most appropriate intervention to assure patient safety.

Abstract: A sensing device is provided for use in ventilation treatment, including a thermal mass flow sensor for measurement of gas flow inside of a gas flow conduit of the device and at least one pressure sensor for measurement of the pressure inside of the conduit. The sensing device may include at least one flow conditioner to condition of the flow of the gas inside of the conduit. The device may include an absolute pressure sensor for measurement of the pressure outside of the conduit (e.g., the ambient pressure). Systems and methods are provided that include a sensing device, or use thereof, in determining or presenting patient or treatment data or feedback, such as to a care provider. Systems and methods are provided that include determining patient airway gas flow and pressure waveforms, and that analyze morphological features of the waveforms to determine conditions of the patient or of treatment.
