Abstract: A floating pool skimmer (1) that randomly travels across the surface of a pool to ensure that the entire surface of the water in the pool is cleaned. The floating pool skimmer has an elongated hose (3) that attaches to a conventional fixed pool skimmer, a vacuum inlet and/or a vacuum hose (6) connecting an automatic pool vacuum (2) to a pool pump and filter. A basket (26) held within a main housing (8) strains water and traps debris which is held in the basket by suction from the pool filter while the pool filter is operational. When the pool filter is not running a floating weir (17) and/or one or more weir doors (30) prevents debris from floating back out of the basket and into the pool. Apertures (14) located on the main housing allow water into the main housing that then acts as a ballast to ensure the floating pool skimmer remains upright at all times.

Abstract: A self contained liquid filtering apparatus has been provided. A filtering chamber is provided at the top of an elongated frame structure and this frame structure supports also toggle actuated devices for opening and closing end gates at the open ends of the filtering chamber in order to permit the advancing of a filtering sheet that is taken from a roll supported upon the frame and is drawn by a motorized roller through the end openings of the filtering chamber upon the end gates being lifted by toggle devices. The dirtied paper is drawn from the filtering chamber and disposed of in a tray lying within the frame structure of the apparatus arranged to receive drippings from one end opening of the filtering chamber and the drippings from the other end of the filtering chamber are delivered to the tray by an inclined drain plate. An evacuating apparatus is provided within the frame structure for removing the liquid from the filtering chamber prior to the opening of the end gates and the advancing of the filtering paper from its roll and adapted to return the liquid to the filtering chamber when the new filter area has been provided. The filtered liquid removed from the filtering chamber may be collected in a tank and returned to the filtering chamber so as to be refiltered. Fluid cylinder devices are used for the actuation of the toggle gate operating mechanisms and for the evacuating cylinder device appropriate valves are used in the liquid pipelines to control the flow of the liquid into and out of the filtering chamber. A pushbutton control box is mounted on one end of the frame structure and can control the various fluid cylinder control valves of magnetic type and the liquid control valves may similarly be controlled electrically.

Abstract: A liquid transfer device is disclosed that has a fluid pump enclosed within a rigid, space enclosing housing. The pump has a strainer with strainer openings that provide a fluid connection between the pump and the inside of the housing. The strainer is located at the lower end of the pump and the housing. There are also openings in the housing that provide a fluid connection between the inside of the housing and its outer surface. The maximum size of the openings in the housing is less than the minimum size of the strainer openings so that the strainer does not clog with debris. A discharge manifold provides a fluid connection between the pump and the outside the housing. In this way fluid is drawn in through the housing openings and then the strainer before being pumped out via the discharge manifold.

Abstract: A water recovery system in which drain water from appliances, sinks and bathtubs are conserved in a storage recovery tank for treatment and reuse as a water supply for toilets. The drain water is directed through an outlet to flow over a pivoted grate that is mounted above the top opening of the storage tank, with the grate formed of spaced inverted T-shaped ribs and normally held at an acute angle, such as ten degrees, to the horizontal plane by a spring so that debris retained on the grate is washed diagonally downwards off the top surface of the grate to fall off the lower end of the grate into a debris-collection and tank overflow unit. The drain water, itself, falls between the grate ribs into the storage recovery tank. The grate is linked to an outlet valve leading from a liquid chemical storage tank so that liquid treatment chemicals in the chemical tank are released into the storage tank during periods of drain water flow onto the grate, when the grate is pivoted to a greater angle, such as twenty degrees, to the horizontal by the weight of drain water flowing on and through the grate. The grate is also linked to a first float which prevents the grate from opening the release valve of the chemical tank when the storage tank is full. A second float in the storage recovery tank admits fresh water into the tank, when the tank level falls below a pre-set minimum. A pump operated by a pressure switch automatically supplies water to the toilet supply line upon demand.

Abstract: A pool filtering system is shown. Dirty water from the pool passes into a stilling or surge chamber under the control of a float valve, then passes through a large particle interceptor screen into a filter element chamber which has a plurality of generally vertically extending filter elements, each having a coarse core covered by an outer layer of sufficiently fine mesh to retain an outer coating of diatomaceous silica, then through the filter elements in parallel to a manifold at the bottom of the tank which leads to the recycling pump and directs the clean water back to the pool. A diatomaceous silica dry slurry feeder is installed above the filter tank. A hypochlorinator is effective in the clean water line going back to the pool. A heat exchanger may be mounted in the stilling chamber, if desired. An air reservoir is kept filled with compressed air under about 40 pounds per square inch and backwashing is accomplished by exploding or ramming the air from the air reservoir through the manifold system and up and out through the filter elements removing the spent diatomaceous silica which falls to the filter tank floor. Preferably the top of the filter tank is open so that the condition of the filter elements may be inspected at all times.

Abstract: Devices and methods associated therewith for facilitating movement, removal and/or installation of components from treatment units (e.g., water treatment units and wastewater treatment units). The treatment unit can take the form of a granular media filter (e.g., upflow filter, downflow filter or bi-flow filter) or a sludge collection basin. One preferred device is one or more floats facilitating safe removal of components of a treatment unit. The float(s) can be operably associated with an air scour system of a water filter to remove the air scour system from a granular media filter bed. The float(s) can be operably associated with a collection grid of a sludge collection container facilitating safe removal of the collection grid from the sludge collection container. Another preferred device is a flexible piping/conduit operably connected to a pressurized air source and an air scour system to assist in removal/installation of the air scour system.
