Abstract:
In a modular rolling mill gear units are installed between selected rolling units in place of other rolling units which haven removed from the mill pass line to thereby provide a gap in the rolling sequence. Each gear unit is coupled to the drive units previously coupled to the respective removed rolling unit, and is configured to provide a continuation of the mill drive train end to accommodate operation of the next subsequent rolling unit at the speed of the respective removed rolling unit. The gear units carry water boxes or other equivalent cooling devices which serve to lower the temperature of the product between successive roll passes.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for manufacturing metallic support beams for windscreen wiper blade assemblies, which includes a supply of metallic strip feedstock in a cold condition, the feedstock being passed in a cold condition through a pair of opposed, spaced apart, cold forming rollers. A spacing between the cold forming rollers is cyclically varied during to cyclically vary a thickness reduction of the feedstock and provide a rolled strip with a cyclically varying thickness. The thickness of the rolled strip is varied in a single pass between the cold forming rollers and the feedstock is worked so that the thickness of the rolled strip varies cyclically along its length in a ratio of least 2:1. Support beams are produced from the rolled strip, each support beam having a thickness which varies along its length.
Abstract:
Rolling stand with rolling rings supported as a cantilever and having their axes at an angle to each other for the rolling of metallic products, the axes of the rolling rings being horizontal, vertical or tilted, the stand comprising shafts (16) to bear the rolling rings (10) with at least a first bearing (12) and a second bearing (13), at least one pair of the first and second bearings (12-13) being lodged in an eccentric support suitable to adjust the distance between centers of the rolling rings (10), the axes (15) of the rolling rings (10) coinciding with the axes (15) of the respective shafts (16), in which stand the axes (15) of the rolling rings (10) in a non-rolling condition form between them a predetermined angle (alpha) and converge on a position outside and in form of the rolling rings (10).
Abstract:
The apparatus comprises a pair of rotatable devices each holding a plurality of metal shaping rollers, the rollers of one device meshing with rollers of the other device to produce specific designs. This is made possible by merely selecting suitable rollers of both sets and when production of a specific metallic section is terminated, other rollers are selected by rotating the rotatable devices. When suitable rollers have been selected they are locked in operating position and when another design is required, the devices are unlocked, a selection is made, and the devices are again locked to produce the new metallic section.
Abstract:
Rolling unit supported as a cantilever and comprising pairs of rolls (12) which are supported as cantilevers and have their axis horizontal and/or vertical, such unit (10) including a working area (13) and at the same time an area (14) for replacement and maintenance, such two areas being different and located diametrically opposite to each other at the two sides of an axis of rotation (26), the rolling unit (10) being placed between the two areas (13-14), the axis of rotation (26) being vertical or tilted.
Abstract:
A rolling mill roll assembly having a cemented carbide work roll mounted on a tapered rolling mill arbor is described. The roll is held nonrotational with respect to the arbor by a split metallic ring member which is forced into pressurized abutment with the bore of the carbide roll by a cylindrical wedge member interposed between the split ring and the arbor.
Abstract:
Means for mounting a work roll on a shaft. A cylindrical collet having at least one tapered surface, either exterior or interior, is pushed into an annular space between the roll shaft and work roll, one or both of these latter components having a reversely tapered surface which cooperates with the tapered surface or surfaces on the collet to provide a self-locking frictional connection. The collet is inserted and withdrawn from the annular space by mechanical or pneumatically operated mechanisms which coact with the collet and the shaft end or work roll.
Abstract:
Apparatus for clamping an overhung rolling disc on a drive shaft by compressive stress between plane parallel surfaces, whereby a hydraulically expansible tie-rod is inserted in the hollow drive shaft for producing the compressive stress, the tightening nut of which tie-rod is located opposite the outer end face of the rolling disc for transmitting the compressive force, wherein the tightening nut is seated on a bayonet ring provided with an external screw-thread, the bayonet ring with the tightening nut is supported by a bayonet nut, which is in turn screwed on a threaded end of the tie-rod and a taper sleeve is inserted between the rolling disc and drive shaft, the free outer end face of which taper sleeve is located opposite an end face of the bayonet ring and is constructed for the attachment of extraction claws.
Abstract:
The invention involves individual gearing arrangements for the rolls of a stand of a continuous rolling mill, particularly for a wire manufacturing block with gears graduated from stand to stand in accordance with the degree of elongation to be secured in a sequence of working on wire rods.
Abstract:
Apparatus for mounting a multi-groove work roll on a roll shaft in a rolling mill. The apparatus includes a shoulder on the roll shaft, a spacer assembly on the roll shaft in engagement at one end with the shoulder, the opposite end of the spacer assembly being in engagement with a work roll axially received on the roll shaft, and a retainer assembly for holding the work roll against the spacer assembly in an operative position with one of the roll grooves aligned with the mill pass line. The spacer assembly includes at least one removable element, the presence or absence of which will change the axial length of the spacer assembly by a distance equal to the spacing between the centers of adjacent grooves on the work roll.
