Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conducting an engine off natural vacuum test in a vehicle in order to indicate the presence or absence of undesired evaporative emissions. In one example, a vehicle fuel system and evaporative emissions system are sealed from atmosphere, and responsive to a pressure increase below an expected threshold, the fuel system and evaporative emissions system are actively pressurized via circulating hot engine coolant to a heater core and blowing hot air through the vehicle cabin to the fuel system via a three way ventilation valve in the rear of the vehicle. In this way, false failures of EONV test procedures due to environmental factors and vehicle operator drive habits may be reduced, and unnecessary engine service may be avoided.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a venting apparatus (10) for liquid containers, in particular for an aqueous urea solution, and comprises a housing (11) that is connectable to the liquid container (40) and that has a first opening (12) to the liquid container (40) and a second opening (13) to the surrounding environment of the liquid container. The venting apparatus further comprises an air-permeable and liquid-impermeable membrane, which is arranged between the first opening (12) and the second opening (13) in the housing (11). In addition, the venting apparatus comprises a slosh baffle, which at least partly covers the first opening (12). The venting apparatus (10) according to the invention is characterized in that the housing (11) and the slosh baffle (20) are formed in one piece.

Abstract: A method for an engine is presented, wherein purge air is routed through a fuel vapor canister during a first condition such that desorbed fuel vapor traverses a canister purge port en route to an engine intake, and wherein purge air is routed through a fuel vapor canister during a second condition such that desorbed fuel vapor traverses a canister load port en route to the engine intake. Bypassing the canister purge port during a canister purge event allows for cleaning adsorbed fuel vapor from the canister even if flow through the canister purge port is restricted. In this way, vehicle emissions may be mitigated during conditions where a carbon dust filter at the canister load port is clogged.

Abstract: A vapour recovery system recovers vapour coming from a vehicle tank. The system includes a valve that is positionable in a closed position, an open position creating a passageway with a first size, and one or more intermediate positions each creating a passageway with a size smaller than the first size. The system also includes an electronic controller to control an actuator to position the valve in a sequence of positions over time. The sequence includes at least one of the intermediate positions during a time period larger than 1 second. The valve is arranged in a line of the vapour recovery system between a vapour outlet of the vehicle tank and the atmosphere. The actuator is a stepper-motor based linear actuator. The controlling includes selecting at least one intermediate position, and the selection includes selecting a number of steps to be set from a predetermined reference position.

Abstract: A tank sealing valve arranged in a passage network through which a fluid flows between a fuel tank and a canister includes a first valve unit and a second valve unit. A first port and a second port of three ports included in an outer case body of the first valve unit are open toward a first chamber of two chambers divided by a diaphragm or a bellows of the first valve unit, and a third port of the three ports is open toward a second chamber of the two chambers. A valve body of the first valve unit includes a through passage penetrating a valve portion and a column portion of the valve body. The valve portion communicates with the first port and the second chamber through the through passage in a case where the first port is closed. The second valve unit opens and closes the third port.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for preventing fuel tank overfilling during refueling events, wherein overfilling of the fuel tank is prevented by delivering a pressure pulse to the fuel tank responsive to a fuel fill level reaching a predetermined threshold, or responsive to an attempt to add additional fuel subsequent to the fuel fill threshold being reached. In one example, an onboard pressure vessel is actively pressurized via an onboard pump, where the pressure may be actively released and routed to the fuel tank to induce an automatic shutoff of a refueling dispenser pump under predetermined conditions. In this way, automatic shutoffs of refueling dispenser pumps may be rapidly and reliably induced, thus preventing fuel tank overfilling, prolonging the lifetime of fuel vapor storage canisters, and reducing undesired evaporative emissions.

Abstract: An assembly is provided that integrates a jet pump with a liquid trap to drain liquid fuel from vapor flow, such as vapor vented from a fuel tank. The assembly includes a housing that has a liquid trap configured to trap liquid carried in vapor flowing through the housing. A jet pump has a venturi nozzle and is in selective fluid communication with the liquid trap so that liquid flow through the venturi nozzle induces draining of the liquid trap.
