A pressurized fuel tank for a vehicle engine is confined removably in a protective case formed of a pair of hinged half shells to one of which a tank supporting base is secured. A hinge assembly, secured to one of the half shells, is adapted for attachment to a frame member of a vehicle, such as a lift truck, for supporting the case for pivotal adjustment between a retracted position within the perimeter of the vehicle, for protection of the fuel tank during operation of the vehicle, and an extended position projecting outwardly of the perimeter of the vehicle, for enabling opening of the case and replacement of the fuel tank.

Disclosed herein is a material handling truck of the stand-up rider type having four support wheel units, including two steerable support wheel units, one of which comprises a power driven traction wheel. The two steerable wheel units are mounted on a rigid subframe joined to the main frame of the truck for pivotal movement about a longitudinal axis so that the wheels can accommodate to uneven terrain and thereby maintain the traction wheel in effective contact with varying subjacent surfaces. The second steerable wheel unit comprises a pair of spaced wheels which have independent horizontal tilting movement about a mounting axis spaced below the axis of rotation of these wheels to minimize any tendency of this wheel unit to cock. A telescoping universal drive connects a steering wheel on the vehicle with a sprocket chain on the subframe for steering the traction wheel. An internesting compensating linkage system on the subframe provides positive steering movement of the other steerable wheel unit.

A swing down tank bracket for supporting a fuel tank mounted onto a vehicle includes a frame immovably mounted onto a vehicle, a cradle operatively connected to the frame and arranged to support a fuel tank, a hinge that pivotally connects a first end of the cradle to a first end of the frame, and a latch having a first portion disposed on a second end of the frame and a second portion disposed on a second end of the cradle. The first portion of the latch is releasably engaged with the second portion of the latch so that after the latch is disengaged, the cradle is rotationally maneuverable between a retracted position and an extended position in a single stage. The cradle may be maneuvered between the retracted position and the extended position by simultaneously rotating outwardly and downwardly in relation to the vehicle. In some embodiments, a gas spring device, connected between the cradle and the frame, retards and assists the motion of the rotating cradle in a manner that requires minimal effort on the part of the operator in loading and unloading the fuel tank from the vehicle. Another device ay be included to latch the cradle in the extended position in order to provide stability when loading/unloading a fuel tank.

At least one pressure vessel for the storage of at least one gaseous medium is installed in a mounting device which can be easily replaced together with the pressure vessel in the lower portion of the industrial truck (5) between the axles (7). Devices necessary for the generation of electrical energy from the gaseous medium can be advantageously installed in the mounting device.
