摘要:
An optical glass wherein an amount of change in refractive index (nulln: difference in refractive index between a state before radiation and a state after radiation) caused by radiation of laser beam at wavelength of 351 nm having average output power of 0.43W, pulse repetition rate of 5 kHz and pulse width of 4OO ns for one hour is 5 ppm or below is provided. The optical glass comprises a fluorine ingredient and/or a titanium oxide ingredient and/or an arsenic oxide ingredient. The optical glass suffers little change in refractive index by radiation of strong light having wavelengths of 300 nm to 400 nm such as ultraviolet laser.

The present invention relates to a glass/ceramic sealing system. A sealing glass having a coefficient of thermal expansion in excess of 160.times.10.sup.-7 in/in/.degree. C. is provided. The glass is useful for matched sealing of copper and copper based alloys. The glass is capable of ceramization, greatly increasing the resistance of the glass to moisture penetration and fracture due to mechanical damage. The temperature of ceramization has been designed so that a solutionized copper alloy leadframe is age hardened during ceramization. The glass has particular utility in the manufacture of electronic packages and multi-layer circuitry.

A glass composition specially useful in the glass envelope of TV receiver tubes and which is of the lead silicate type is disclosed comprising in weight percent 30-65% SiO.sub.2, 20-40% PbO, 5-20% alkali metal oxides, 0-2% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, 0-10% alkaline earth metal oxides, 0.2-2% Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, and 0.1-0.5% CeO.sub.2. The improvement resides in employment of a novel refining system when the glass is formed which employs Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3, niter and CeO.sub.2 as the refining agents in particular weight proportions to reduce the seed count in the molten glass while also reducing thermal shock breakage when the solid glass product is thereafter thermally reworked.

An at least double silicate of an alkali metal and at least one other metal is prepared by interreacting (i) an aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate and (ii) a solution of an oxide of such at least one other metal, or salt thereof, in the presence of (iii) a water-miscible polar organic liquid, whereby said at least double silicate is suspended in the organic reaction medium in insoluble and finely divided form. The separated product is an admirable glass-former.
摘要:
A glass article having an optical quality surface smoothness can be formed by molding a "silanol" glass material against a die having a molding surface which is a mirror of that required for the glass article, thereby obviating glass grinding and polishing steps. The article is prepared by first forming an anhydrous base glass comprising, in mole percent on the oxide basis, about 72 to 82% SiO.sub.2, 10 to 17% Na.sub.2 O and/or K.sub.2 O, and 5 to 15% of an oxide or oxides selected from ZnO and PbO. The base glass may include up to 5% Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and up to 3% of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, BaO and/or MgO. The anhydrous base glass is then hydrated to include a water content ranging from 0.5 to 10% by weight to form a "silanol" glass. That glass is then molded against the die surface at a temperature ranging from about 250.degree. C. to 500.degree. C. and a pressure ranging from about 4,000 to 20,000 psi for a period of time sufficient to replicate the surface smoothness of the die on the glass and, depending on the molding process, yield a glass article containing about 0.5 to 10% by weight of "tightly" bound total water.
