Abstract:
A steel cord (20) comprises a plurality of steel filaments (22, 24) arranged in parallel to the longitudinal axis of the steel cord (20) without twisting. The steel cord (20) further comprises a wrapping filament (26) twisted around the steel cord (20). Each of said steel filaments (22, 24) is a flat wire having flat surfaces. The steel filament (24) near the center of the steel cord (20) has a bigger width than the steel filaments (22) further away from the center of the steel cord (20) such that the cross-section of said steel cord (20) approximates an oval shape with the bending stiffness around the shorter axis of the oval shape being greater than the bending stiffness around the longer axis. In a tire, the steel cord being used as a reinforcement, the longer axis being arranged perpendicular to the radial direction of the tire.

A steel cord for the reinforcement of rubber articles has a two-layer construction in which a core consists of two steel filaments and a sheath arranged around the core consists of nine steel filaments. Preferably the two steel filaments constituting the core are either non-twisted filaments or are twisted at a pitch of not less than 30 mm on average, a ratio (ds/dc) of the diameter ds of each steel filament constituting the sheath to the diameter dc of each steel filament constituting the core is within a range of 35-80%, and a ratio (a/b) of the minor diameter a to the major diameter b of the cord cross-section in an arbitrary position in the longitudinal direction of the cord is within a range of 63-100%
Abstract:
Process for producing a steel cord for pneumatic tires comprising a bunch of wires, the core of which consists of wire filaments 10 arranged bunched juxtaposed in parallel. Preferably at least three wire filaments 10, 20 are provided, at least two wire filaments located juxtaposed in parallel being spirally shaped as core filaments 10 forming a core 60 and at least one wire filament spirally surrounding the two core filaments 10 as a sheathing wire 20. Spirally shaping the wire filaments 10 is achieved in accordance with the invention by false twisters 40. Due to this spiral shaping of the wire filaments 10 migration of the filaments from the core composite is avoided more particularly. The residual torsional stresses of the core filaments among each other and in conjunction with the restoring forces of the sheathing wire are advantageously cancelled. In addition, the steel cord features to advantage a flattened, more particularly, oval shape.
Abstract:
A steel cord (10) adapted for the reinforcement of elastomeric products comprises a core and a layer arranged around the core. The core comprises one to four core filaments (12) and the layer comprises three to ten layer filaments (14). At least one of the core filaments (12) have a first wave form and at least one of the layer filaments (14) have a second wave form such that the first wave form is substantially different from said second wave form. This allows to control the size of the micro-gaps and to guarantee rubber penetration.

A two-layered twisted steel cord for reinforcing rubber articles, comprising a core including two filaments and a sheath including six or seven filaments wound around the core, in which an average twist pitch of the core is set to be at least 30 mm, and when six filaments are used for the sheath, a ratio of diameter ds of each filament of the sheath to diameter dc of each filament of the core, (ds/dc).times.100!, is set in a range of 58.0 %
Abstract:
An oval or elliptical shaped overhead conductor that is twisted along its length to provide a continuously varying profile to the wind. A single core is comprised of a circular center wire wrapped by circular wires and the core is surrounded or encased by one or more layers of wire strands, including strands of different size from that of the core wires. Each layer is helically wound in a direction opposite to the underlying layers. The surrounding strands may be circular, with the strand sizes symmetrically arranged to result in a substantially oval or elliptical cross-section. Alternatively, the strands may be shaped into symmetrically arranged non-circular arcuate cross-sections, which when wound together result in an oval or elliptical conductor cross-section. The core strands are each circular or round wires having the same diameter, with the result that the core is easy and inexpensive to manufacture. The conductor is capable of manufacture in one step by winding the core and outer layers at the same time. A helical winding along the length of the conductor results in altering the profile that is presented to the wind, thereby substantially cancelling wind-induced forces in adjacent conductor segments or regions, thus damping conductor vibrations.
Abstract:
A steel cord is disclosed for use in reinforcing rubber products, especially automobile tires. In order to provide desirable rubber penetrability and break-resistance, three to six material wires are intertwisted into a steel cord having an elliptically shaped cross section having a ratio of its major diameter to its minor diameter of between 1.1 and 2.2. The cord is formed such that its material wires substantially contact each other near the ends of the major axis of the ellipse and are separated from each other near the end of the minor axis. The cord of the invention is normally formed such that a ratio the twist pitch to the material wire diameter is in the range of 30-80. However, if a high elongation of more than 5% is necessary, such can be imparted by intertwisting material wires such that the ratio of the twist pitch to the material wire diameter is in the range of 10-28.
