摘要: A multi-layer cap shingle for installation along a ridge, hip, or rake of a roof includes a forward exposure area and a rear headlap area. The multi-layer cap shingle includes at least two layers of shingle material, a top layer and a bottom layer each having opposed edges. The layers are bonded together with patches of lamination adhesive adjacent their opposed edges. The bottom layer is configured with a deformation-absorbing mechanism such as a pair of slots extending from a forward edge rearwardly inboard of the lamination adhesive patches. When the multi-layer cap shingle is bent over a roof ridge, the slots of the bottom layer of shingle material narrow in width to account for the fact that the bottom layer must bend around an arc of slightly smaller radius than the top layer of shingle material. As a result, the opposed edges of the bottom and top layers of shingle material remain aligned and both edges of the top layer are laminated to the bottom layer to increase wind lift resistance of the installed multi-layer cap shingle.

The method includes sharing each drop between two or more blend rolls with a subsequent blend roll or rolls applying a partial drop directly on top of partial drops already applied by a first blend roll or rolls. High production speeds can be accommodated since each roll can be operated at slower rotation rates and with slower acceleration and deceleration requirements than would be required if the full granule drop were applied during the same time interval with a single blend roll.

摘要: Asphalt sealcoats and asphalt shingle waste coatings for roofing materials are provided. A roofing material comprises a substrate having an exposed surface and an unexposed surface. An asphalt shingle waste coating is located on at least a portion of the exposed surface of the substrate. The asphalt shingle waste coating comprises an asphalt shingle waste, wherein the asphalt shingle waste comprises a waste asphalt and a limestone. An asphalt sealcoat is located on at least a portion of the asphalt shingle waste coating. The asphalt sealcoat is substantially free of the asphalt shingle waste. The asphalt sealcoat has a thickness of no greater than 50% of a thickness of the asphalt shingle waste coating.

摘要: A method of forming an asphalt mixture includes mixing a polyol with a bio-source material to form a bio-asphalt. The method can further include mixing the bio-asphalt with a bitumen source different from the bio-asphalt to form an asphalt mixture. The bio-source material can include an oil, such as a vegetable oil, an animal fat, or any combination thereof. The bitumen source can include a petroleum-based asphalt. The method can further include adding a modifier, such as a fatty acid, a polycarboxylic acid, a polyacrylic acid, a polyacrylate comprising a copolymer, or any combination thereof. Moreover, a roofing grade asphalt mixture includes a bio-asphalt. The bio-asphalt includes an alkyd, wherein the alkyd is a reaction product of a polyol and a bio-source material. The roofing grade asphalt mixture further includes a bitumen source material and particles.

摘要: A fiber mat includes an assembly of fibers including a minority portion including a set of polymer fibers and a majority portion including a set of fibers different than the minority portion, wherein the minority portion is a plane parallel to a plane of the majority portion of the assembly of fibers; and a binder including an organic resin, wherein an air permeability of said fiber mat is not substantially different from an equivalent weight fiber mat containing a homogenous mat structure and wherein the fiber mat provides at least a 5% increase in tear when placed in a bituminous roofing product compared to an equivalent bituminous roofing product made with the equivalent weight fiber mat containing the homogenous mat structure.

摘要: A roofing shingle includes an asphalt-coated sheet and a reinforcement member. The asphalt-coated sheet includes a shingle mat and an asphalt coating applied to the shingle mat. The asphalt-coated sheet has a lower tab portion normally exposed on a roof and an upper headlap portion normally covered-up on a roof. At least a portion of the asphalt-coated sheet is coated with granules. The reinforcement member is adhered to the asphalt-coated sheet along an upper edge of the headlap portion, with the reinforcement member and the headlap portion together providing a nail pull-through value that is greater than an otherwise identical shingle having no such reinforcement material.
