摘要: Roofing granules comprising agglomerated inorganic material, and building materials, such as shingles, that include such roofing granules. By fabricating roofing granules from agglomerating inorganic material it is possible to tailor the particle size distribution so as to provide optimal shingle surface coverage, thus reducing shingle weight and usage of raw materials. Additionally, the use of agglomeration permits the utilization of by-products from conventional granule production processes.

摘要: A roofing shingle includes an overlay sheet, an underlay sheet, and a reinforcement member. The overlay sheet includes a headlap portion and a tab portion, wherein the overlay sheet has an overlay sheet height. The underlay sheet is secured to a bottom surface of the overlay sheet such that a region of the underlay sheet overlaps a region of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet. The reinforcement material is secured to a top surface of the headlap portion of the overlay sheet, wherein the reinforcement material is configured to improve nail pull-through, wherein the reinforcement material extends beyond the overlapping regions of the headlap portion and the underlay sheet.

摘要: The present disclosure relates generally to roofing products, for example, shingles suitable for covering and protecting the roofs of houses, buildings, and other structures. The present disclosure relates more particularly to a roofing shingle including an upper edge, a lower edge, a first end, a second end, a headlap section, and an exposed section. A nail zone extends across the roofing shingle from the first end to the second end within the headlap section. The roofing shingle includes a top shingle layer including a top surface and a bottom surface. A reinforcement strip is secured to the bottom surface of the top shingle layer and overlaps with the nail zone. Further, a self-sealing material is disposed within the nail zone and is configured to form a seal around a mechanical fastener that punctures the roofing shingle in order to secure the roofing shingle to an underlying roof structure.

摘要: A method of forming an asphalt mixture can include mixing a bio-source material and a bitumen source to form a bitumen mixture. The bitumen mixture can be mixed with a catalyst to form the asphalt mixture. Particles can be added to the asphalt mixture to form a roofing-grade asphalt mixture. In an embodiment, the bitumen source material can have a softening point of at least approximately 93° C. and a penetration distance no greater than approximately 25 dmm. In another embodiment, the roofing-grade asphalt mixture can have a softening point of at least approximately 104° C., a penetration distance no greater than approximately 12 dmm, a viscosity of at least approximately 3000 cps at a temperature of 204° C., or any combination thereof. The asphalt mixture can be applied to a base material to form a roofing product. The asphalt mixture can be applied as a pavement product.

摘要: A method includes obtaining a glass mat having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The method includes coating the first side of the glass mat with a molten asphalt. The method includes obtaining a plurality of particles. The method further includes depositing the particles on the first side of the asphalt coated substrate. The depositing includes controlling a location of the plurality of particles on the first side of the asphalt coated substrate using an electrostatic generator, an electromagnetic generator, or a piezoelectric depositor. The method further includes forming a roofing shingle from the asphalt coated substrate having the plurality of particles as deposited.
