    摘要: In current high density magnetic memory systems a large write current is used, giving its waveform a large overshoot. This often brings about severe excess saturation of the media so the recorded transition quality degrades. This problem has been overcome by constricting a portion of the write head yoke. This effectively places a flux control valve ahead of the write pole tip which reduces the sensitivity of the write field to the write current as well as to other parameters, thereby enabling the write field to rise very rapidly without an excessive increase in the write width and reducing its sensitivity to the write current at low current values.

    摘要: A magnetic head including a lower core layer and an upper core layer, a non-magnetic gap layer and a coil layer. The upper core layer is made of an FeNiX (X being an element of one of rhenium Re and molybdenum Mo). A concentration difference of the upper core layer between a concentration of iron by weight percent and a concentration of the element X by weight percent is set to be larger at a leading edge of the upper core layer than at a position of the upper core layer more backward than the leading edge. In this arrangement, the magnetic head is provided with improved overwrite characteristics and accommodates the use of high-frequency recording signals.

    摘要: A read head has a flux guide layer that is immediately adjacent (abuts) the back edge of a read sensor. The flux guide layer is made of a high resistance soft magnetic material that conducts magnetic flux from the back edge of the read sensor so that the magnetic response at the back edge of the read sensor is significantly higher than zero. This increases the efficiency of the read sensor. The material for the flux guide layer is A-B-C where A is selected from the group Fe and Co, B is selected from the group Hf, Y, Ta and Zr and C is selected from the group O and N. In a preferred embodiment A-B-C is Fe—Hf—O and the Msρ of the flux guide layer is greater than 50 times the Msρ of the read sensor layer where the read sensor layer is NiFe, Ms is saturation magnetization and ρ is resistivity. Because of the flux guides high resistance current shunting losses are nearly eliminated.

A first upper magnetic layer is formed on the non-magnetic layer so as to form a magnetic core together with the lower magnetic layer and the non-magnetic layer. The first upper magnetic layer has a first saturation magnetic flux density and a first magnetostriction constant. An insulation layer is formed on the non-magnetic layer. A thin film coil is provided in the insulation layer. A second upper magnetic layer is formed on the insulation layer so as to be at least above the thin film coil. The second upper magnetic layer has a second saturation magnetic flux density and a second magnetostriction constant. The first saturation magnetic flux density is higher than the second saturation magnetic flux density. The second magnetostriction constant is lower than the first magnetostriction constant.
