A curable adhesive composition comprises a thermoplastic fluoropolymer, an elastomeric fluoropolymer, an ethylene copolymer and a crosslinking component. The composition preferably also comprises a tackifier. The crosslinking component preferably comprises a free radial generator such as a peroxide and a co-crosslinking agent comprising a multifunctional monomer. The adhesive is particularly useful with heat recoverable articles and bonds exceptionally well to fluoropolymer substrates.

Apparatus for connecting a coaxial cable to a connector having a base for connection to a conductive shield of the cable via a solder ring within a heat-shrinkable tube, the apparatus including a first fixture for engaging an end of the coaxial cable and connector and a first heater mountable in a predetermined position with respect to the fixture for directing a controlled amount of heat to the solder and heat-shrinkable tube. The apparatus also includes a second heater mounted in a predetermined position with respect to the first fixture for providing controlled heat of a different magnitude than the first heater, a second fixture for engaging another end of the coaxial cable, a third heater mounted in a predetermined position with respect to the second fixture for directing a controlled amount of heat to the region occupied by the solder ring and the heat-shrinkable tube, and a fourth heater mounted in a predetermined position with respect to the second fixture for providing controlled heat of different magnitude than that provided by the third heater. The first fixture and the first and second heaters are mounted for movement with respect to the second fixture and the third and fourth heaters, and is an electronic controller connected to control the heaters to automatically heat and test electrical integrity of the cable and connector.

A heat recoverable electrical connector has a tubular enclosure that is open at each end to receive respective elongate electrical conductors. The openings are such that the conductors are receivable in the connector by bringing them thereto in a translational movement from a direction perpendicular to their axes; the need for accurate alignment of the conductors with the connector is thus avoided. The connector is subsequently heated to effect its recovery and to connect and encapsulate the conductors. Electrical connection between the conductors is enhanced by a solder ring located within the connector enclosure.

The device includes a first hollow heat-recoverable member having open ends and a second hollow deformable member having open ends with one end being within the first member. The device includes shielding between the end of the second member within the first member and the first member. The shielding includes a quantity of fusible material on that portion of the shielding outside the second member. The device is partially recovered to secure the shielding between the members but not sufficiently recovered to melt the fusible material or fully recover the first member.

The connection device includes means adjacent the access means for applying fixable electrically conductive material to the opening through the access means for electrically connecting EMI cable shield thereto. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the means for applying fixable electrically conductive material in the form of solder defines a heat-recoverable sleeve with a preform of solder on its interior. Sufficient material is provided for filling the opening with electrically conductive material to block EMI paths through the opening.
