Abstract:
An additional data useful for the management of copies of a document for an image forming apparatus is embedded in a hard copy of the document. The additional data is embedded in an inherent image of a document as discrete dots arranged in a prescribed format. Preferably, the size of each of said discrete dots is not so large as to be recognized easily with naked eyes. The additional data can be embedded in unit of blocks. Further, the density of the discrete dots is different from the density adjacent to the discrete dots. The image data for embedding an additional data can be obtained by reading a document, or by receiving data sent from a computer or read from a floppy disk. An additional data embedded in a hard copy can be extracted from the image data on the hard copy. Further, the production of a copy according to the image data can be controlled according to the extracted additional data. For example, if the additional data means that the source of the hard copy is a secret document, the copying is allowed only for a legitimate user. An additional data is generated for each copy according to the extracted additional data for embedding it in a hard copy to identify each copy. The additional data generated for each copy are compiled and they are used to manage copies of various sources systematically and illegal copies can be traced easily. If the additional data received from a printer is not consistent with the additional data already stored, the printing may be prohibited. A transmitter for transmitting an additional data may be provided in a document such as a book.
Abstract:
An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes an image compressing unit that creates thumbnail data in page units on the basis of image data of a document scanned by a scanner unit, a first control unit that writes the thumbnail data in page units in a page memory, converts the thumbnail data into thumbnail packets in a unit of thumbnail data of plural pages and reads out the thumbnail packets, and stores the thumbnail packets in a data storage medium, and a second control unit that reads out the thumbnail packets stored in the data storage medium and stores the thumbnail packets in the page memory, selects data of an arbitrary thumbnail packet in response to user operation, and displays a thumbnail image in a unit of plural pages on a display unit of a control panel.
Abstract:
A first encoder splits an image into a plurality of blocks, and embeds a first data into the image based on a difference between feature amounts in a combination of the blocks. A second encoder encodes a second data in a form of a combination of image patterns. A disposing unit disposes the combination of image patterns in the image in which the data is embedded by the first encoder.
Abstract:
Forensic communication apparatus and method. An apparatus is disclosed for recording image or other data in real time. The apparatus includes a capture device for capturing the image or other information. Once captured, a local verification device is operable to indelibly mark the captured image or other information with a representation of date, time, location and information identifying the creator of the data and location of the capture device. A transmitter is provided for transmitting the locally verified captured image or other information in real time to a secure storage facility. The capture device is operable, after the locally verified captured image or other information is transmitted to the secure storage facility, to receive and verify acknowledgment of the receipt of the transmitted locally verified captured image or other information to the storage facility.

Abstract:
A method and an apparatus to process a digital image is provided. The method may comprise receiving host image data, receiving audio data and embedding the audio data within the host image data to provide an embedded image wherein the audio data if freely recoverable from the embedded image. The method may comprise processing the audio data using a Short Term Fourier Transformation (STFT) prior to embedding the audio data within the host image data. The method may reduce an amount of digital data that represents an audio signal included in the audio data prior to embedding the audio data within the host image. In one embodiment, the method comprises quantizing magnitude data and discarding phase data of the audio signal to provide the audio data for embedding. The method may comprise quantizing the audio data to match a shell of a D4 Lattice.
Abstract:
A photographed subject authentication system comprising: a compressed image data writing device for writing the first compressed image data and related information into the photographed object authentication card; a compressed image data reading device for reading a third compressed image data from the photographed subject authentication card; a data specifying device for specifying the original image data corresponding to the first compressed image data and the compression condition read based on the obtained related information; and a second compression device for compressing the specified original image data based on the specified compression condition to obtain second compressed image data, wherein the data verifying device determines that the third compressed image data is equal to the first compressed image data when the result of the comparison is that the third compressed image data is equal to the second compressed image data.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a data processing apparatus. Additional information is embedded in coded data obtained by encoding image data, without increasing the amount of the coded data, and the data in which the additional information is embedded is correctly decoded into the image data and the additional information. An embedded compression encoder 11 encodes image data according to a predetermined coding rule, and destroys the coding rule based on additional information, thereby embedding the additional information. A decoder 12 restores the embedded coded data, obtained by embedding the additional information in the coded data, into the coded data encoded according to the coding rule, thereby decoding the additional information and also decoding the coded data into the image data.
