Abstract:
An improved bowed roll assembly and system that can be adjusted during operation to alter critical speeds to outside the range of the operational speed of the assembly, and methods of altering critical speeds of the roll assembly during its operation to inhibit harmonic vibration are provided. In one embodiment, the bowed roll assembly system includes a programmable logic controller (PLC) and accelerometer, and the critical speeds of the roll assembly are nulllearnednull by the PLC which triggers changes to the pressure of the pressure applying member of the assembly to alter the roll's stiffness and the critical speeds.
Abstract:
An industrial roll includes: a substantially cylindrical shell having an outer surface and an internal lumen; a polymeric cover circumferentially overlying the shell outer surface; and a sensing system. The sensing system includes: a plurality of sensors embedded in the cover, the sensors configured to sense an operating parameter of the roll; and a signal-carrying member serially connected with and extending between the plurality of sensors. The signal-carrying member follows a helical path over the outer surface of the shell, wherein the signal-carrying member extends between adjacent sensors extends over more than one complete revolution of the shell outer surface (and, preferably, an intermediate segment of the signal-carrying member extends over more than a full revolution of the roll between adjacent sensors).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a backing lath (6, 14) used for coating a web of paper or paperboard in doctor blade and rod coaters and film-transfer coaters, the backing lath featuring a fiber-reinforced composite material body. When necessary, the backing lath can be surfaced with a wear-resistant coating. The invention also concerns a doctor element assembly, wherein the backing lath has a fiber-reinforced composite material body.
Abstract:
One carpet seaming tool has an elongate, generally straight handle having on one end thereof a U-shaped bracket having spaced, parallel legs. Secured intermediate its ends in a pair of registering openings in the legs of the bracket is an elongate shaft having rotatably mounted coaxially thereon three rollers, one positioned between the two legs of the bracket and the other two positioned adjacent opposite ends of the bracket. Each roller is generally spirally shaped in configuration, having a spirally shaped outer circumferential surface disposed to have rolling engagement with the surfaces of two carpet sections that are being seamed together. In an alternative form, the handle is curved slightly intermediate its ends, and in addition to having the three spirally shaped rollers on the one end thereof, it has also mounted on its opposite end a U-shaped bracket with an elongate shaft secured intermediate its ends in registering openings in the legs of the bracket. Three cylindrically shaped rollers are rotatably mounted coaxially on the shaft, thereby providing smooth, circumferential outer surfaces disposed to have rolling engagement with the above-noted carpet sections when the tool is used during a seaming operation.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a roller fixed coating tool including a grip and an application roller held by a frame extended from the grip, which tool has a support structure capable of non-rotatably supporting the application roller at two or more predetermined positions upon rotation of the application roller about the axis thereof, wherein coating is done while non-rotatably supporting the application roller at each of the two or more predetermined positions. According to the present invention, almost all the surface of the periphery of the application roller can be effectively used, and coating film forming with less air bubble entrainment can be continued for a relatively long period. In addition, since any typical application roller can be used for the coating tool of the present invention, the cost necessary for the entire coating work can be greatly reduced as compared to conventional coating work.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for the production of a thermoplastic tubular structure is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a stationary mandrel, a first and second feeder for feeding a first and a second strip to a mandrel at a first location and second location respectively, and a third feeder for feeding a cover strip to the mandrel at a third location, the third location being downstream of the second location. A transport system adapted to wind and advance the strips as they are being fed to the mandrel is used to helically wind the fed strips around the mandrel. A head for dispensing a width of a liquefied thermoplastic material is also disclosed. The head is oriented to dispense the width of the liquefied thermoplastic material on at least part of a winding of the first strip and part of a winding of the second strip. A cutter is used for cutting the thermoplastic tubular structure into predetermined sizes.
Abstract:
A device (510) for the direct or indirect application of liquid or pasty application medium (516) by means of an applicator unit (512) to a material web (520), in particular of paper or board, comprises a device (570) upstream of the applicator unit (512) in the running direction (L) of the substrate (U) in order to attenuate the air boundary layer (G) carried along by the substrate (U). The attenuation device can in this case comprise a sealing element (570) which is pressed in a sealing manner against the substrate (U) and rolls on the latter substantially without slippage, and/or can comprise an electrode arrangement and/or can comprise an ultrasound source and/or can comprise a resilient diaphragm element acting without contact.
Abstract:
A patterned roller is provided for imparting textured impressions into an impressionable surface. The roller includes a handle, an axle assembly attached to the handle, a pair of end caps rotatably disposed on the axle assembly, and an interchangeable sleeve for imparting textured impressions into an impressionable surface.
Abstract:
A coating layer, which has the property of releasing a coated liquid, is formed on the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical rod. The rod is engaged with a first roll, and rotates in a predetermined direction. A coating liquid is supplied to a nip surface portion between the first roll and the rod in the predetermined direction, and a film of coating liquid is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the first roll. After the thickness of the coating-liquid film is adjusted at the nip surface portion, the thickness-adjusted film is transferred from the first roll onto a surface of the base paper directly, or indirectly through the second roll.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to enhancing the aesthetic appearance of surfaces by the contact application of a nonwoven fabric having a three-dimensional image imparted therein. The three-dimensional image of the nonwoven fabric induces a topical modification in either the actual or perceived texture of a surface when the imaged nonwoven fabric is applied to, then removed from, the surface. The imaged nonwoven fabric disclosed herein exhibits low Tinting qualities thereby reducing the potential of fiber contamination of the treated surface and is sufficiently durable that the sample can be used and rinsed clean a plurality of times, markedly increasing the working life-span.
