Abstract:
A ceramic-based hardwood floor finishing method resistant to panelization, exhibiting improved durability, and suitable for on-site use. The method is comprised of laying down successive layers of water-based primer, armor coat and top coat. The water-based primer utilizes a low resin content and a low co-solvent concentration to substantially reduce panelization of hardwood boards. The water-based armor coat is comprised of large particulate size ceramic additives which, in combination with a low resin content, allow the formation of a microscopic bead structure on the surface of the finish which provides enhanced durability.
Abstract:
The invention relates to ink jet printing and a process for ink jet printing wherein a coating is formed on an ink receiving layer containing a plastic pigment. The coating is fused into a durable coating which is water-resistant, has some lightfastness, is scratch resistant and can be used in indoor and outdoor environments.
Abstract:
A viscosity-increasing agent, capable of increasing the viscosity of a film-forming polymer in an image-functional layer, is preapplied in a first solution onto a web through a coating and drying process. When a second solution containing the film-forming polymer is then coated on the web, the viscosity-increasing agent diffuses through the applied second solution. As the viscosity-increasing agent interacts with the film-forming polymer during this diffusion process, the viscosity of the solution increases. The invention can be used to improve the manufacture of ink-jet media, photographic or photothermographic elements, and other imaging and image-receiving media.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for producing a durable multi-layered coating on difficult-to-coat substrates, such as aluminum. The process includes subjecting the surface of the difficult-to-coat substrate to a adhesion promoting step, followed by applying an intermediate layer of flexible primer, which contains a polyester copolymer produced through a two-stage polymerization process. A mar resistant top layer of clear coating composition is then applied over the intermediate layer to produce the multi-layered durable coating on the difficult-to-coat substrate. If desired, the intermediate layer may be pigmented or it may be applied in the form of one or more patterned layers of different colors. Alternatively, one or more patterned layers of different colors may be applied over the intermediate layer before the application of the mar resistant top layer. If desired, the application of the mar resistant top layer and the patterned layers may be delayed by up to 12 weeks to permit the user to mass produce coated components, such as delivery van bodies, with an intermediate layer in a basic color, such as white, which can be then custom coated with various design patterns, followed by the application of the mar resistant top layer.
Abstract:
An improved, user-friendly silane/silica sol copolymer hardcoating composition for protecting optical plastic and other substrates (including wood, metals, glass, plastics and most coated articles) from scratching is able to be manufactured at lower costs and to provide much-improved ease of use in transportation, storage, dipbath (or other coating tank) stability, and blush resistance in ordinary cleanroom atmospheres. The silane/silica sol copolymer is formed as a direct reaction product of an acidic silica sol and monomethyltrialkoxysilane, preferably substantially monomethyltriethoxysilane, in ratios of 30:70 to 70:30, most preferably about 40:60. A tail solvent aids blush resistance, reduces internal stress and permits adhesion to unprimed polycarbonate. Optionally, colloidal silica sol dissolved in water-miscible solvent may be reacted in a second stage with acidic aqueous colloidal silica sol earlier silanized with monomethyltrialkoxysilane.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process of a forming multilayer coating film characterized by that in a process of forming a multilayer coating film by successively coating with an undercoat paint (A), an intermediate paint (B) and a topcoat paint (C) on a substrate, (1) to use a liquid thermocurable paint containing 0.1-30 parts by weight of aluminium powder and 1-200 parts by weight of titanium oxide pigment per 100 parts by weight of a thermosetting resin composition and the hiding film thickness of its coating film being less than 25 &mgr;m as said intermediate paint (B), (2) to use a solid color paint, a metallic paint or an interference pattern paint as said topcoat paint (C), and (3) to coat said topcoat paint (C) after curing by heating of the coating film of said intermediate paint (B). By this process it is possible to make an intermediate coating film thinner and to form a multilayer coating film with excellent smoothness.
Abstract:
The method for improving the corrosion resistance of reinforced concrete coated with a thermal spray coat of metals, especially of zinc or zinc alloys, is effected by electrically connecting said spray coat with the armour and additionally coating it with a polyurethane resin which is applied as a low-viscosity solution in organic solvents.
Abstract:
A method of treating the surface of a rough, plastic object to produce a high gloss, textured and/or coloured finish. A rapid prototype treated according to the present method assumes the appearance of an injection molded part, without the usual high costs associated with producing the injection mold. In one embodiment, first step involves of removing the pores in the porous part, at least at the outer layers of the part, followed by a smoothening process of filling the voids between the miniature steps with a hardener to give a smooth surface, on which further post-processing may be performed.
Abstract:
A process generally for preserving fresh-cut flowers and plant tissue, particularly fitted for fresh-cut flowers and plant tissue for use in manufacturing applications to form permanently flexible high-wear products to be used in a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions. A method for preserving the plant tissue wherein the plant tissue is formed and substantially dehydrated, whereupon the plant tissue is subsequently saturated with a saturating mix, removed from the saturating mix, drained, dried, and then subsequently coated with a coating mix, removed, drained, and dried. An optional polishing mix may be applied for cosmetic purposes. The finished product retains the integrity of the original flower in shape, texture, size, and color and is highly flexible and durable under conditions of constant physical wear and disturbance.
Abstract:
A coating method and coating apparatus with which layer surface defects caused by foreign matter such as dust particles and the like can be greatly reduced. The method and apparatus are characterized in that an static reducing device which reduces static charge on a support is provided. Before a coating solution for an emulsion layer is applied to the support web by a coating device, the static charge level of the support is reduced to 1 kV or less by a static eliminator. Thus, layer surface defects at a coated layer formed by coating are decreased.
