A cross-linear slide bearing unit for use at an intersection of, for example, a column and a cross rail in a machine tool includes a bearing body having a pair of recesses formed in orthogonal relation to each other with a solid portion interposed therebetween. The bearing body further has loaded ball guide grooves respectively formed in the inner walls of ridges which face the corresponding recesses, and non-loaded ball guide bores formed through the ridges in parallel to the corresponding loaded ball guide grooves and with a necessary distance therefrom. End plates are respectively mounted to end portions of the bearing body. Each end plate is provided in the inner surface thereof with a ball guiding U-groove for providing communication between the non-loaded ball guide bores and the corresponding loaded ball guide grooves. The cross-linear slide bearing unit further includes track rails slidably fitted in the recesses, respectively, of the bearing body through balls. Each track rail is provided in the lateral outer walls thereof with loaded ball raceway grooves which are parallel to the corresponding loaded ball guide grooves. The bearing body may have in its approximately central portion a through hole of any desired shape, while the track rails may be respectively formed with windows which communicate with the through hole.

The mechanism of the present invention comprises a fixture support disposed between the slideway carriage and the tool or workpiece fixture and provided with a hinge-like coupling between the carriage and the fixture support so as to allow for the minute and precise displacement of the fixture support in a direction normal to the direction of the slide path so as to readily compensate for slight deviations in the straightness and roll of the slide path.

A pallet positioner is used to locate a pair of pallets in selected positions on the turntable of a concrete pipe making machine. The pallet positioner has a frame supported for vertical movement on upright supports below the turntable. A hydraulic cylinder connected to the frame operates to move the frame up and down. A pallet guide and positioning structure connected to the frame is moved up through holes in the turntable to support pallets above the turntable. The form assembly having two jackets is placed over the raised pallets and locked into the bell sections of the jackets. The form assembly has lock structures which hold the pallets in the bell section of the jackets. The frame and pallet guide and positioning structure is then lowered away from the turntable. The form assembly is moved by the turntable to locate the jackets in vertical alignment with two packerheads. A gear box mounted on a cross head is connected to downwardly directed packerhead shafts operable to rotate the packerheads. The cross head is movably mounted on an upright frame and is lowered to the bottom area of the jackets adjacent the pallets before concrete is discharged into the jackets by separately controlled conveyors. A dual bell packer is moved into engagement with the pallets to rotate and vibrate the pallets to form the bell sections of the concrete pipes. The packerheads are simultaneously rotated and elevated in the jackets, as concrete is discharged into the jackets, to simultaneously build up the cylindrical walls of the pair of concrete pipes.

A lathe to simultaneously machine two or more die molds in chucks of a headstock at one end of a bed used to support a saddle which is moved along a bed by a feed screw parallel to the rotational axes of the chucks. A drive in the headstock also rotates a master mold about a horizontal axis at a laterally-disposal location from the die molds. A probe provides a signal corresponding to the internal surface contour in the master mold to move cutting bars which always extend in a generally-parallel relation with the rotational axes of the chucks during machining of the die molds. A first swivel is carried by a cross slide upon the saddle. The first swivel is adjustable about a vertical axis to provide a desired angle between the direction of attack by the cutting bars and the horizontal axes of rotation by the chucks. A linear displacement assembly is supported by the first swivel and includes a movable member which is reciprocated by a piston and cylinder assembly for displacing the cutter bars according to the output signal from the tracer probe. A second swivel is supported by the movable member of the linear displacement members to angularly position tool support bars so that the bars extend in a generally-parallel relation with the horizontal axes. The tracer probe carried by a follower bar is supported by a swivel frame which is supported by the second swivel so that the follower bar extends in a generally-parallel relation with the cutter bars.
