Abstract: An electronic device such as a multi-turn trimming capacitor and potentiometer has two conductive elements and means for rotating one element with respect to the other. The rotating means includes a drive member coupled with one conductive element such that an angular displacement of the drive member with respect to the other conductive element imparts less angular displacement to the one conductive element with respect to the other conductive element. Rotation of the one element is achieved while sealing both elements from ambience.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for precisely positioning an object such as a circuit module (12, 108) by moving it a fixed distance from an unknown initial position, for the purpose, for example, of moving connector pins a fixed distance into associated socket connector springs (136). A resilient spring (40, 42, 100) is compressed between a fixed stop (18, 20, 90) and a member (48, 106) which engages the object; so that the object is moved an unknown distance (A, B, C) to an initial position determined by its encountering resistance which exceeds the force applied by the spring, such as the resistance provided by connector springs when connector pins are inserted. The compression existing in the bias spring is maintained when the initial position is reached while concurrently the engaging member (48, 106) is moved a fixed distance from the initial position, such as the desired insertion distance of connector pins into connector springs. A wedge (64, 124) and lever (72-84, 124-134) linkage maintains the spring compression while moving the engaging member.

Abstract: In an intermittent transmission meshing mechanism comprising a toothed drive member having a toothed portion and a circular outer periphery continuous therewith and a toothed driven member having a toothed portion and arcuate locking faces formed on the opposite sides thereof, an oil retaining member having a projection projecting toward the drive member is provided on the driven member between the toothed portion thereof and each of the locking faces or on each of the locking faces. When an end of the circular outer periphery of the drive member adjacent its toothed portion comes into sliding contact with the toothed portion or locking face of the driven member, the corresponding oil retaining member slightly presses against and applies lubricant to the end. The oil retaining member affords continued lubrication over a prolonged period of time without the depletion of lubricant liable to occur in conventional like meshing mechanisms and without entailing any waste of lubricant since no lubrication is done while the mechanism is out of operation. The oil retaining member can be easily replenished with lubricant.

Abstract: This invention relates to operating mechanisms for hydraulic control systems and it is an object of the invention to provide an operating mechanism which is self-locking. The mechanism includes a bar which is slidable in a channel, one face of the bar being cut away to provide two inclined surfaces. Rollers are retained by springs in the spaces between the inclined surfaces and one side of the channel. A plate is also located between the bar and the said side of the channel and a control member serves to displace this plate along the channel. The arrangement is such that, when the plate is displaced in either direction, it pushes a respective one of the rollers towards one end of the bar, thereby allowing it to roll down the inclined surface. On the other hand, if a force is applied to the bar in either direction, a respective one of the rollers will move up the inclined surface and wedge against the side of the channel, thereby locking the bar in position.

Abstract: A control mechanism adapted for incrementally and positively controlling the displacement of a biassed member or the like associated with a bicycle gear-change transmission between a plurality of predetermined positions for effectuating changes in gear ratios of such transmission in response to unidirectional movement of an operator control lever of the control mechanism.
