摘要:
A DC to DC converter has an unregulated input and provides a pair of regulated outputs which independently provide variable power on demand to two independent loads at a substantially constant output voltage. The converter includes three major sections, the input oscillator and pulse width modulation section, the isolated negative DC regulator and the isolated positive DC regulator. Each of the DC regulators is current limited and each is provided with overvoltage protection. One of the output regulators provides improved efficiency through the use of a pair of appropriately connected catch diodes which decrease current change through a filtering inductor, and through implementation of a combined regulator preload resistor and AC pulse width modulating switching transistor drive current source. The converter is a compact modular unit having a low profile with circuit components arranged to minimize temperature instability.

A supply circuit for supplying a smoothed direct current to a load comprises a series FET element in series with the load resistance. The supply circuit is fed from the AC supply network via a rectifier 54 and a smoothing capacitor 52 causing a ripple voltage to be present on the input terminals 2-1 and 2-2. The direct voltage component of the input voltage is present across load resistance 60 and the alternating voltage component of the input voltage is present across transistor 10. In the case of known supply voltage circuits the voltage drop across the series element is selected to be equal to the maximum peak-to-peak value of the alternating voltage component thereby causing unnecessary power dissipation to be developed at a minor ripple amplitude. This will cause rapid ageing of the series element. The supply circuit in accordance with the invention comprises a comparator 42 comparing the voltage across FET transistor 10 to a threshold voltage. Comparator 42 controls the charge on the filter capacitors 30 and 32. Consequently, the overall voltage across transistor 10 will never exceed the sum of the threshold voltage and the peak-to-peak voltage of the alternating voltage component of the input voltage.

A circuit is provided to speed up switching of a capacitively coupled power transistor driven with a signal provided from a pulse width modulator. The speed-up circuit is provided across a buffer amplifier which is in series circuit between the pulse width modulator and the coupling capacitor. The speed-up circuit includes a time delay circuit which is activated when the output of the amplifier goes low. The delay circuit is coupled to actuate a clamp circuit at a predetermined interval after activation. The clamp circuit is connected to the input of the amplifier and, upon actuation, pulls up the voltage at the input of the amplifier so that it is at a level intermediate the extreme values of the pulse width modulator output signal. In a preferred embodiment the timer is a series RC charging circuit and the clamp is a transistor with its base connected to the junction between the capacitor and the resistor. The collector of the transistor is coupled to the input of the amplifier and its emitter is connected to a voltage source through a zener diode.

A regulator for compensating for the IR drop of a rectifier coupled between the secondary winding of a transformer and a load circuit includes a pass transistor connected between the load circuit and the rectifier. A DC reference voltage is developed by a circuit connected across the secondary winding that is not subject to current fluctuations. A differential amplifier is supplied with the reference voltage as one input and the load voltage as another input. The output of the differential amplifier controls the conductivity of the pass transistor. A current limiting transistor is included in the base circuit of the pass transistor and, in turn, is controlled by another differential amplifier supplied with potentials representative of the IR drop across the rectifier. A shut down transistor is provided for cutting of the pass transistor in the event the load circuit voltage drops below a predetermined level.

A high power D.C. supply regulated for constant output power to be dissipated in varying loads such as encountered in cathode sputtering systems. A.C. input power is rectified to produce the desired D.C. The output D.C. voltage and load current are measured and a voltage signal proportional to their product is compared with a D.C. input control signal. The comparator "error" output signal controls a pass element that varies a D.C. current through saturable reactors in the A.C. input power lines to regulate the D.C. power into the load. The supply includes a limiting feature that is adjustable to a desired threshold level for limiting D.C. output power, voltage, and/or current so that the limiter will take control from the comparator to hold the supply output at a safe level.

The firing phase of the power converter which can change power to be supplied to a load is determined by the firing angle instruction produced from the current control circuit in accordance with the magnitude of the current difference between the current target value and the current actual value flowing through the load. The nonlinear compensating circuit produces a correction angle instruction predetermined in accordance with the magnitude of the current actual value in the current intermittent region in which the load current becomes intermittent. In the current intermittent region, the sum of the firing angle instruction from the current control circuit and the correction angle instruction is used to determine the firing phase of the power converter and thereby to compensate for nonlinear response. The nonlinear compensation in the current intermittent region is made only in the transient state when the difference between the current target value and the current actual value exceeds a preset value. Thus, the stability at the steady state condition in the current intermittent region can be increased.

A SYSTEM FOR REGULATING THE VOLTAGE TO A LOAD AS A LINEAR FUNCTION OF AN INPUT SIGNAL COMPRISES A CONTROLLED RECTIFIER IN SERIES WITH THE LOAD AND A SOURCE OF FULL WAVE RECTIFIED AC VOLTAGE. A CONTROL CIRCUIT IS CONNECTED TO THE RECTIFIER GATE ELECTRODE TO CONTROL THE FIRING ANGLE AS A FUNCTION OF SAID INPUT SIGNAL. THE CONTROL CIRCUIT INCLUDES A COMPARATOR TO WHICH IS APPLIED THE INPUT SIGNAL AND A CONSINUSOIDAL SAWTOOTH SIGNAL IN SYNCHRONISM WITH THE RECTIFIED AC PULSES, THE AMPLITUDE THEREOF BEING DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE AMPLITUDE OF THE RECTIFIED AC PULSES AND STARTING FROM THE ZERO LEVEL OF THE INPUT SIGNAL. UPON EQUALITY OF THE TWO SIGNALS, THE COMPARATOR SUPPLYS A CONTROL SIGNAL TO THE RECTIFIER GATE ELECTRODE.
