Abstract:
In an LCD device, a circular polarizer is provided to each of two substrates that hold a liquid crystal layer. The circular polarizer on the display surface side includes a polarizer, λ/2 plate in which Rth>0, and a λ/4 plate in which Rth 0. Rth is a retardation in the thickness direction of a λ/2 plate or a λ/4 plate. The absolute value of the sum of the Rth between the λ/2 plate for which Rth>0 and the λ/2 plate for which Rth 0.
Abstract:
LCD unit includes first and second LCD panels stacked one on another. An image-data processing unit outputs monochrome image data to the second LCD panel, and color image data to the first LCD panel. The monochrome image data specifies a full transmission for a pixel having a luminance not less than a threshold, the original gray-scale level for a pixel having a luminance less than the threshold. The color image data is generated based on the monochrome image data and to input image data.

Abstract:
A semiconductor device in which a semiconductor layer is formed on an insulating substrate with a front-end insulating layer interposed between the semiconductor layer and the insulating substrate is provided which is capable of preventing action of an impurity contained in the insulating substrate on the semiconductor layer and of improving reliability of the semiconductor device. In a TFT (Thin Film Transistor), boron is made to be contained in a region located about 100 nm or less apart from a surface of the insulating substrate so that boron concentration decreases at an average rate being about 1/1000-fold per 1 nm from the surface of the insulating substrate toward the semiconductor layer.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a liquid crystal display device, includes applying an alignment film to a substrate surface, provisionally drying the alignment film, baking the alignment film; rubbing; and rubbing washing, which are performed in this sequence, wherein, in applying the alignment film, the alignment film is formed so as to cover at least a display region, and a portion of the alignment film which extends in a region outside the display region is imparted with an adsorptive property by modification during a process from the provisional drying to the rubbing washing.
Abstract:
An ink mixed with spacer members is ejected onto one or both of a TFT substrate and a CF substrate while an ink jet head having a plurality of ink jet nozzles is moved. The excursions of a predetermined number of ink jet nozzles from an end of the ink jet head overlap those of a next excursion of the ink jet head without causing overlapping of ejected ink within the overlapping area. An abrupt stepwise change in the amount of ejected ink is suppressed whereby an uneven gap is suppressed.
Abstract:
An electrophoretic display device is provided which is capable of preventing an afterimage and an image burn-in. Frames to make electrophoretic elements making up pictures of an active-matrix and a microcapsule-type electrophoretic display device be driven are divided into a plurality of white frames and black frames. The number of white frames to be used for writing on the electrophoretic elements by using a scanning driver and a data driver on one picture or between pictures is made to be equal to the number of black frames to be used for the writing and writing frames for particles having slow mobility responsive to variation in an electric field is provided last in the formation of the picture.
Abstract:
To provide a pixel matrix and the like, which are capable of improving the picture quality by suppressing generation of flicker and crosstalk without deteriorating the numerical aperture of the pixels and without increasing the manufacturing cost. A first switch device has transistors connected in series. When selected by a gate line, the transistors are set ON simultaneously to apply a voltage, which is supplied from a data line, to a pixel electrode. A second switch device has a transistor and a control capacitor. When selected by a gate line different from the one mentioned above, the transistor is set ON to supply a prescribed potential to a connection point between the transistors of the first switch, and the prescribed potential is stored at the control capacitor. When not selected by the both gate lines, the potential of the connection point is kept to the potential stored at the control capacitor.
Abstract:
A lateral electric field type LCD device displays images uniformly and stably, where abnormally displayed areas caused by mechanical deformation such as a press with a finger do not remain on the display screen for a long time. A first liquid crystal driving electrode and a second liquid crystal driving electrode comprise a first bend and a second bend, respectively. Each pixel region is divided into a first sub-region and a second sub-region by the first and second bends as a boundary in such a way that a rotation direction of liquid crystal molecules in the first sub-region is different from that in the second sub-region. A boundary stabilization electrode is formed at least one of the first and second bends, wherein a shape or position of the boundary stabilization electrode deviates from a line of symmetry of the first and second bends.
