Abstract: An exhaust device includes a casing including an inlet configured to receive an exhaust gas, an outlet configured to discharge the exhaust gas, and a chamber disposed therein between the inlet and the outlet. The casing defines a longitudinal axis along its length. The exhaust device further includes an exhaust conduit at least partially received within the chamber of the casing along the longitudinal axis. The exhaust conduit includes an inner surface, an opposing outer surface, a plurality of perforations extending through the exhaust conduit from the inner surface to the outer surface, and at least one protrusion extending outwardly from the outer surface. The exhaust device further includes an absorptive material disposed on the outer surface of the exhaust conduit. The at least one protrusion of the exhaust conduit engages with the absorptive material in order to form an interference fit between the absorptive material and the exhaust conduit.

Abstract: A battery box for a hybrid or electric vehicle, the battery box including a pair of longitudinal walls and a pair of lateral walls that cooperate with a drop-in floor to define an interior compartment of the battery box for holding one or more batteries. The battery box includes corner junctions where the lateral walls are attached to the longitudinal walls and further includes corner shields that are placed over the corner junctions. The corner shields are externally mounted outside of the interior compartment and provide fluid tight sealing over the corner junctions. The longitudinal and lateral walls are made of dual phase steel. The corner shields have complex corners and are therefore made of draw steel.

Abstract: A battery box for a hybrid or electric vehicle, the battery box including two longitudinal walls and two lateral walls that cooperate with a floor to define an interior compartment of the battery box for holding batteries. The battery box includes a mounting bracket that has a raised base, an upright segment, and a curved transition segment extending from the raised base to the upright segment. A portion of the raised base is spaced above the floor and the raised base includes a peripheral rim that is attached to the floor by spot welds. The mounting bracket includes one or more depressions that extend in a continuous manner from the raised base, across the transition segment of the mounting bracket, and across at least a portion of the upright segment. The depression(s) are designed to be spot welded to the floor and one of the longitudinal walls.

Abstract: A vehicle exhaust system including an exhaust pipe section, a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, and a burner assembly, connected to the exhaust pipe section at a position upstream of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, for pre-heating the exhaust system prior to engine start-up. The burner assembly includes a burner with a combustion chamber and a connecting tube that extends between the burner and the exhaust pipe section. A metallic mesh filter element is located inside the connecting tube and/or a catalytic washcoat is disposed on an inner surface of the connecting tube to reduce emissions of the burner assembly at start-up. The catalytic washcoat comprises a mixture of a support material and a catalyst material that chemically reacts with emissions generated by the burner to reduce the amount of burner produced emissions released from the exhaust system during pre-heating.

Abstract: A vehicle exhaust system for allowing passage of exhaust gasses therethrough. The vehicle exhaust system has a first pipe having a first end and a second end. The first end defines an exhaust gas inlet and the second end defines an exhaust gas outlet. Abstract: A valve assembly for an exhaust system of a vehicle comprises a housing defining an inlet, an outlet, and a longitudinally extending exhaust gas passageway in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet. The valve assembly further comprises a valve flap disposed in the housing and rotatable between a first position restricting exhaust gas flow through the exhaust gas passageway, and a second position whereat exhaust gas flow through the exhaust gas passageway is less restricted. A mass damper is disposed within the exhaust gas passageway and attached to the valve flap. The mass damper includes end portions and an intermediate portion disposed between the end portions with the intermediate portion having a thickness that is greater than a thickness of the end portions. The mass damper is positioned proximate an inner surface of the housing and positioned between the valve flap and the housing when the valve flap is at the second position.

Abstract: An exhaust device (108) for a vehicle is provided. The exhaust device (108) includes an outer shell (202), an inlet (206) to receive exhaust gases, an outlet (208), an inner shell (204) received within the outer shell (202), a pair of partition walls (216) and a Helmholtz neck (220). The inner shell (204) defines an inner volume (210). A plurality of first circumferential openings (212) extending through the inner shell (204) fluidly communicates the inlet (206) with the inner volume (210). A plurality of second circumferential openings (214) extending through the inner shell (204) fluidly communicates the outlet (208) with the inner volume (210). The pair of partition walls (216) is disposed between the inner shell (204) and the outer shell (202). The pair of partition walls (216), the inner shell (204) and the outer shell (202) define a Helmholtz chamber (218) therebetween. The partition walls (216) seal the Helmholtz chamber (218) from the inlet (206) and the outlet (208). The Helmholtz neck (220) is disposed on the inner shell (204) or one of the pair of partition walls (216).
