Abstract:
A winding bar is clamped in a tangential direction in a winding slot in a rotating machine, which is also provided with an axially directed slot wedge arranged at the opening of the slot, by providing a radially directed positioning groove in one of the slot walls with a wedge device in this groove exerting pressure on the winding bar. The wedge device comprises two side wedges, which may be connected into a single unit, and which have sliding surfaces facing each other converging in tangential and radial directions and engaging an intermediate wedge which can be inserted in the radial direction between the two side wedges.
Abstract:
A slip controlled driving means for traction purposes includes a plurality of direct current motors connected to various wheel shafts. They are provided with control rectifiers forming valve control systems to control the motor current. The rectifiers respond to a first reference value supplied to the system by a first reference value transducer, a current transducer for the rotor current and a tachometer for each motor. A minimum selector is provided to compare the output values of all the tachometers and to pick out the lowest one. A reference value transducer can be set for the permissible difference between a certain motor speed and the speed of the motor rotating at the lowest speed. A summation device produces the sum of the lowest tachometer value and this difference reference, and a plurality of comparison devices are each connected to a tachometer and arranged to produce the positive difference between the output value of one tachometer and such sum. This positive difference is supplied to each of the control systems in such a way as to reduce the driving current of the motor.
Abstract:
A thermoelectric apparatus is formed of a plate of heatinsulating material having holes therethrough in which are positioned a plurality of P-type and N-type thermoelectric elements. The members of the two types are alternately connected by heat-transfer members on both sides of the plate and in contact with the elements. Bolts extending through the thermoelectric elements connect two of the heat-transfer members and press them against the elements.
Abstract:
A coil positioned in the slot of a stator or rotor in an electric machine is formed of a bundle of conductors arranged close together and insulated from each other and from the slot. The conductor insulation consists of a layer of enamel and a tape of corona resistant insulating material running longitudinally of the conductor is adhered to the enamel layer. The tape surrounds the parts of the conductor facing the main insulation which surrounds the bundle of conductors and furthermore overlies at least those parts of the sides of the conductor which face the adjacent conductors which parts are situated nearest the sides facing the main insulation.
Abstract:
In a boiling water reactor having coolant recirculation pumps installed within an annular space between the reactor pressure vessel and an internal core shroud, the pump motors are arranged outside the reactor pressure vessel, the pump shafts penetrate the bottom part of the reactor pressure vessel in vertical shaft bores and the pump impellers are surrounded by pump casings having curved flow passages. The pump casing s are rigidly attached either to the shaft bores or to the core shroud and flexibly sealed with respect to the core shroud or the shaft bores. The pump motors may be designed to operate in the reactor coolant and be enclosed in motor housing pressure vessels communicating with the reactor vessel.
Abstract:
A capacitor bank for alternating current networks has a number of parallel branches each of which is connected by antiparallelconnected thyristors to the network. There is a control device for each thyristor which, when the bank is fully loaded, connects the thyristors in one conducting direction or the other in synchronism with the maximum of the network voltage in such direction. Each branch of the bank can be recharged by the full load during each half-period of the network voltage. Upon the occurrence of reduced load on the bank, the control devices emit current pulses to connect the thyristor switches in one direction or the other of the maxima of the network voltage in such direction for recharging. These latter pulses are emitted at a frequency which is substantially less thaN the network frequency.
Abstract:
An inverter has a connection group arranged to be fed with DC voltage and which includes two controlled main rectifiers in series with each other connected to the DC source and a connection point between which forms the output terminal for the output voltage of the inverter. These rectifiers are fired alternately. Two controlled commutating rectifiers in series are arranged to be supplied with DC voltage and are fired alternately in order to extinguish the main rectifiers. A commutating capacitor and a reactance are connected in series between the connection point of the main rectifiers and a point between the commutating rectifiers. An inductive element is connected with the capacitor to form an oscillating circuit so as to recharge the capacitor at each commutation. A series connection including the commutating rectifiers is supplied with positive and negative DC voltage of higher and lower potential respectively than that of the positive and negative poles of the first DC source. A limiting rectifier having such polarity that it is made reverse blocking by the voltage of the first DC source is connected between each pole of the first DC source and the terminal of the commutating capacitor facing the AC output.
Abstract:
A reigniting spark gap for surge diverters with magnetic blowing has electrodes arranged on an insulating base. Each electrode has a spark gap part arranged in an extinguishing chamber and the spark gap parts of the electrodes diverge from an ignition point and the surfaces of the spark gap parts face each other and form running-out paths for the foot points of the arc arising between the electrodes. At least one of the two surfaces of the spark gap parts facing away from each other forms a return path for one foot point of an arc. The return path has an end point substantially opposite the ignition point. A channel connects the running-out path and the return path and forms a through-flow channel for ionized gas from the return path to the running-out path.
Abstract:
A propulsion system for a submarine includes an electric motor driving a propeller supplied with current from a fuel cell battery and a hydrocarbon burning engine. The fuel in the form of a hydroaromatic hydrocarbon or a mixture of such hydrocarbons is stored near the propulsion system. The hydroaromatic hydrocarbon is split to form hydrogen and the corresponding aromatic hydrocarbon. The hydrogen is supplied to the fuel cell and the hydroaromatic hydrocarbon is supplied as fuel to the other propulsion device.
