A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a broadcast signal including a robust header compression (RoHC) packet stream are disclosed. The broadcast signal transmitting method includes compressing a header of an IP packet included in an IP packet stream to generate an RoHC packet stream, extracting a first part of an RoHC packet included in the generated RoHC packet stream, converting a second part of the RoHC packet into another type of an RoHC packet, reconfiguring a new packet stream including the converted another type of the RoHC packet, transporting the reconfigured packet stream through a first channel, and transporting the extracted first part through a second channel.

A method for transmitting broadcast signals in a transmitter. Internet Protocol (IP) packets are input processed to output data of a plurality of Physical Layer Pipes (PLPs). The IP packets include service data for a service and service information for acquiring the service. The service information includes Electronic Service Guide (ESG) signaling information. When an ESG is delivered in a session that is included in at least one of the IP packets, the ESG signaling information includes identification information for identifying the session and IP address and port information for the ESG. Layer 1 (L1) signaling information is encoded for signaling the plurality of PLPs. A first signal frame and a second signal frame are modulated by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) method. A first broadcast signal including the modulated first signal frame and a second broadcast signal including the modulated second signal frame are transmitted.

A method for transmitting a broadcast signal is disclosed. The broadcast signal transmitting method proposes a system for supporting a next-generation broadcast service in an environment for supporting next-generation hybrid broadcast using a terrestrial broadcast network and the Internet network. In addition, the method proposes an efficient signaling method for supporting both the terrestrial broadcast network and the Internet network in an environment for supporting next-generation hybrid broadcast.

The present invention proposes a method for transmitting a broadcast signal. The method for transmitting a broadcast signal according to the present invention proposes a system capable of supporting next-generation broadcast service in an environment supporting a next-generation hybrid broadcast which uses a terrestrial broadcasting network and an internet network. Also, the present invention proposes an efficient signaling method which can encompass both the terrestrial broadcasting network and the internet network in an environment supporting next0-generation hybrid broadcast.

The present invention provides a method of processing a hybrid broadcast service. The method comprises, receiving broadcast signals for the hybrid broadcast service, wherein the broadcast signals includes address information about the signaling information, transmitting a request for signaling information of the broadcast signals and receiving signaling information via a broadband channel or a mobile broadband by using one of a unicast method, a multicast method and an eMBMS (evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) method.

The broadcast signal transmitting method comprises the following steps: compressing the headers of data packets of an IP stream identified by IP address information, wherein the compressed data packets include a first packet, the header of which contains static field information, a second packet, the header of which contains dynamic field information, and a third packet, the header of which contains the compressed static field information and/or the compressed dynamic field information; signaling IP-PLP mapping information for mapping the IP stream and a component PLP for transmitting the IP stream, the IP stream compression information, and the header information of the first packet to L2 signaling information; and transmitting the header information of the second and third packets via the component PLP, and transmitting the L2 signaling information via a common PLP.

The apparatus for transmitting broadcast signals comprises an encoder for encoding DP (Data Pipe) data corresponding to each of a plurality of DPs, wherein the each of a plurality of DPs carries at least one service component, a mapper for mapping the encoded DP data onto constellations, a time interleaver for time interleaving the mapped DP data at DP level by skipping cells having zero values of the DP data, a frame builder for building at least one signal frame including the time interleaved DP data, a modulator for modulating data in the built at least one signal frame by an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) scheme and a transmitter for transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

The method includes, pairing with a companion device; receiving a PDI (Profiles, Demographics, Interests) table via broadcast signals, wherein the PDI table includes plural PDI questions related to personal interests for interactive contents, wherein the PDI table includes an ID identifying the PDI table; obtaining an answer for at least one of the PDI questions; storing the obtained answer in the PDI table; and delivering the PDI table having the obtained answer to the paired companion device.
