Abstract:
A copolymer composition that includes a copolymer comprised of at least 30 mol % of residues having the following alternating residues from a donor monomer and from an acceptor monomer. The copolymer contains at least 15 mol % of an isobutylene type donor monomer and at least 15 mol % of an acrylic monomer as an acceptor monomer. The copolymer is substantially free of maleate or fumarate monomer segments and the copolymer composition is substantially free of Lewis acids and transition metals. Also disclosed is a thermosetting composition that includes a reactant comprising functional groups, a crosslinking agent having at least two functional groups that are reactive with the functional groups first reactant, and a copolymer flow control agent that includes the copolymer composition as well as substrates coated with the thermosetting composition.
Abstract:
An ion complex which comprises a water-insoluble polyion (P) and a water-soluble polyion (A); and is insoluble in water and soluble in an aqueous organic solvent. Such an ion complex becomes a coating material which can preferably be used for coating of various ionic substances (e.g., substance having biological activity such as an anticoagulant property or an antibacterial property).

A thermosetting coating composition comprising a component (a) having a number average molecular weight of 300 to 3000 and two or more active methylene group and/or active methine groups per molecule, a component (b) having a number average molecular weight of 200 to 3000 and two or more null,null-unsaturated carboxylic ester groups per molecule, a component (c) having an onium salt, a component (d) having an epoxy group and/or 5-membered ring carbonate group and a component (e) being an organic acid, a phenol or a Lewis acid, wherein a solid content of said coating composition at a viscosity of 100 mPanulls is 50% by weight or more at 20null C.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a rheology control agent. The rheology control agent is used in a coating composition and is the reaction product of a first compound comprising a plurality of hydroxyl groups, of a lactone compound, and of a carbamate compound. The present invention is also directed to a coating composition including the rheology control agent and to a method of preparing the rheology control agent.
Abstract:
This invention concerns low viscosity aldimine and ketimine reactive diluents having multi-imine functionality, which are useful in automotive refinish coating compositions, including a process for making them and the coatings that contain them.
Abstract:
A curable coating composition is described comprising (A) a carbamate- or urea-functional compound that is the reaction product of a mixture comprising (1) a compound comprising a carbamate or urea group or a group that can be converted to carbamate or urea, and a hydroxyl functional group that is the reaction product of (a) a compound comprising a carbamate or urea group or a group that can be converted to a carbamate or urea group, and an active hydrogen group that is reactive with a lactone ring or a hydroxy carboxylic acid, and (b) a lactone or a hydroxy carboxylic acid, and (2) a compound that is reactive with hydroxyl groups on a plurality of molecules of compound (A)(1), but that is not reactive with the carbamate or urea groups on compound (A)(1), (B) a compound comprising a plurality of groups that are reactive with carbamate or urea.
Abstract:
A water-based coating composition suitable for preparing hydrophilic surfaces on various articles is provided which includes a supporting polymer having functional moieties capable of undergoing crosslinking reactions, said supporting polymer soluble in or emulsified in an aqueous based medium; and a hydrophilic polymer, said hydrophilic polymer associated with the supporting polymer. The composition is characterized in that, when crosslinked at the functional moieties, the supporting polymer forms a three-dimensional network which substantially minimizes disassociation of the hydrophilic polymer.
Abstract:
The latex polymer compositions of the present invention exhibit latent crosslinking properties. Latent crosslinking in the polymers takes advantage of the fast reaction that occurs between amine-reactive carbonyl groups in the polymer component and carbonyl-reactive amine nitrogens in the crosslinking component, but controls the rate of crosslinking by protonating the amines with a volatile acid. Once the latex is coated onto a substrate, the volatile acid evaporates and the carbonyl reactive amine nitrogens react with the amine reactive carbonyl groups to form a crosslinked coating.

Abstract:
Carbamate-functional allyl monomers and methods for making them are disclosed. The monomers, which are easy to prepare, readily polymerize with common ethylenic monomers to give low-molecular-weight resins without the need for solvents or chain-transfer agents. Coatings made from the resins should have good durability, good acid etch resistance, good mar resistance, high gloss, and high DOI.
