Abstract:
Fabric softening compositions, preferably in liquid form, for use in the rinse cycle of home laundry operations are improved by: (a) using certain protected water sensitive materials, especially particulate complexes of cyclodextrins and perfumes, which are protected in fabric softening compositions and/or detergent compositions, by e.g., imbedding said particulate complex in relatively high melting protective material that is substantially water-insoluble and, preferably, non-water-swellable and is solid at normal storage conditions, but which melts at the temperatures encountered in automatic fabric dryers (laundry dryers); (b) using soil release polymers to help suspend water-insoluble particles in aqueous fabric softening compositions; and/or (c) preparing the said protected particulate water sensitive materials (complexes) by melting the said high melting materials, dispersing the said particulate complexes, or other water sensitive material, in the molten high melting protective material and dispersing the resulting molten mixture in aqueous media, especially surfactant solution or aqueous fabric softener composition, and cooling to form small, smooth, spherical particles of the particulate complexes, or other water sensitive material, substantially protected by the high melting material.

An effective amount of perfume/cyclodextrin complex is applied to fabric that is preferably at least partially wetted. A preferred method applies said complex to said fabric in an automatic laundry dryer. The perfume/cyclodextrin complexes are preferably incorporated into solid, dryer-activated, fabric treatment (conditioning) composition, preferably containing fabric softeners, more preferably cationic and/or nonionic fabric softeners. The complexes provide fabrics with perfume benefits when they are rewetted after drying. Volatile perfume materials, including those materials that are commonly associated with "freshness" can be applied to the fabrics in an effective way. Clay provides protection for said perfume/cyclodextrin complexes, especially when certain materials like some nonionic fabric softeners and/or fatty acids are present and in contact with said perfrum/cyclodextrin complexes.

Rinse-added fabric conditioning compositions containing cationic soil release polymers are much more effective than similar compositions containing nonionic soil release polymers for soil release. Most of the cationic soil release polymers are new compounds comprising a hydrophobic alkylene oxide/terephthalate portion which has a low molecular weight and at least a single cationic charge under use conditions.

The softening compositions contain (a) the reaction products of higher fatty acids with a polyamine selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkylalkylenediamines and dialkylenetriamines and mixtures thereof, (b) cationic nitrogenous salts having only one long chain acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon group, and optionally (c) cationic nitrogenous salts having two or more long chain acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon groups or one said group and an arylalkyl group; these compositions provide good softening performance across major types of detergents.

A floor mat comprising: a hydrophilic flocking adhesive, flock fibers, a thin primary backing selected from nonwoven, woven and polymeric film substrates, a laminating adhesive and a foam secondary backing. The flock fibers are bonded to the primary backing with the hydrophilic flocking adhesive. The primary backing is laminated to the foam secondary backing with the laminating adhesive. The hydrophilic flocking adhesive improves the wet soil absorbency of the mat.

An improved liquid material dispenser of the type which transmits fluid to be diffused from an enclosed reservoir to an exposed evaporative surface by means of a wick. A wick is provided in the form of a sheet which has a very high evaporative area compared to the volume of liquid which is retained outside the confines of the reservoir at a given time. The critical relation of evaporation area to volume of liquid outside the reservoir is such that the exposed liquid material weight per square centimeter of evaporative surface is less than 10 milligrams per square centimeter. The material to be dispensed, preferably a perfume, comprises at least 50% of materials of no more than moderate volatility as defined herein. Materials having low volatility as defined herein are minimized, and the quantity of low volatility ingredients in said liquid materials is related herein to the holding capacity of the evaporative surface of the wick. The combination of the improved dispenser and improved liquid materials to be diffused maintains the evaporating liquid material at a relatively constant composition, and the liquid material evaporates at a relatively steady rate over the life of the dispenser.

A tamper-evident securement device for use in securing closed a drawer of a furniture, comprising: a flexible extending closure member comprising an at least partially flexible attaching portion disposed within the furniture, and a flexible locking portion comprising a distal end section that traverses a gap between the drawer and a drawer opening when the drawer is closed, and provides an aperture that is disposed outside the furniture; and a securement member disposed within the furniture that attaches the extending closure member to an inner surface of a top side of the furniture; wherein a lock device can be inserted through the aperture of the flexible locking portion. The tamper-evident securement device may employ a shield plate. For installation of the tamper-evident securement device, an implement may be utilized.

New sandwich product, particularly a fast food sandwich product that contains appreciable amounts of salad ingredients, and to a salad insert suitable for use in such sandwich product to improve the diet of the consumer. The sandwich product can include a layer of a meat or protein portion with the layer of a wrapped salad portion that are placed on or enclosed between a bread portion. The wrapped salad portion uses an edible wrapper to enclose the salad ingredients. The edible wrapper can be an edible processed wrapper such as rice paper or soy paper, or an edible natural wrapper such as a lettuce leaf or cabbage leaf, or a combination thereof. An edible humectant can be used in the source of water used for moistening a dried sheet of a rice paper for improving the resistance to drying of a moistened rice paper. Salad dressing can be injected through the outer layer of the wrapped salad portion using a needle.
