Abstract: Wireless devices may employ techniques for indicating alternative modulation coding schemes (MCSs) (e.g., MCS values or MCS indices not associated with a default list or default MCS table). That is, communications (e.g., such as physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions carrying downlink control information (DCI), physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmissions carrying uplink grants, etc.) may include information (e.g., in MCS fields and reserved fields) that indicate alternative MCSs for subsequent communications. For example, random access radio network temporary identifier (RA-RNTI) scrambled DCI, random access response (RAR) messages, etc., may indicate an alternative MCS for subsequent messages in a random access procedure (e.g., for a RAR, an RRC connection request, etc.). The alternative MCS may be conveyed by indicating information such as MCS scaling factors, alternative MCS table IDs, MCS indices associated with the alternative MCS table, or some combination thereof.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may be configured to communicate a number of transmissions that may each have separate feedback processes. A feedback configuration for providing feedback for such separate feedback processes may be determined based on semi-static signaling and dynamic signaling. In some cases, semi-static signaling, such as radio resource control (RRC) signaling and dynamic signaling, such as downlink control information (DCI), may together provide a feedback configuration for a particular transmission. The semi-static signaling may provide a number of bits of feedback information, an interpretation of the bits of feedback information, or combinations thereof, and dynamic signaling may indicate that one or more of the bits are to have one of a number of available interpretations, may indicate that one or more additional bits are to be included with feedback, of combinations thereof. Feedback techniques as discussed herein may be used to provide feedback for uplink or downlink transmissions.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for switching control beams in multi-link systems using new radio (NR) technology multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques. A user equipment (UE) may obtain a configuration from a base station (BS) comprising at least one first pattern of beams to monitor when performing a beam recovery procedure, communicate using beamforming, with the BS, via an active transmit and receive beam pair, determine a beam failure of the active transmit and receive beam pair, and monitor the beams according to the first pattern in response to the beam failure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that support beam failure identification and recovery is systems that may use beamforming for uplink and downlink transmission beams. A first beam and a second beam may be configured, and the second beam may be used to identify a failure of the first beam. Upon detection of a beam failure, a beam recovery procedure may be initiated in which an indication of a beam failure may be transmitted using scheduling request (SR) or uplink control channel resource. A base station in some examples may transmit an indication that one of a set of beams may have failed, and a UE may provide an indication of which beam of the set of beams failed, such as based on a received reference signal associated with one of the beams.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may operate in a reception mode that includes a set of sleep cycles and a set of wake cycles. During a sleep cycle of the UE, a signal quality of an active beam carrying a control channel or a data channel may degrade. This may result in the UE failing to decode the control channel or the data channel during a subsequent wake cycle. In some aspects, the UE may perform a measurement of one or more beams, of a set of beams, prior to the wake cycle. In some aspects, the UE may identify a beam, of the one or more beams, to use for communication with a base station (BS). In this way, the UE reduces a delay in data transfer associated with performing beam recovery after failing to decode the control channel or data channel during the wake cycle.
