Abstract:
A plastic shim or other work piece useful in the construction industry is provided and is an elongated tapered hard plastic body incorporating qualities of a shim lacking in wooden shims. Each shim has transverse breakable lines so that segments can be broken off to adjust its length. For handling, a plurality of such shims are molded in a sheet with adjacent shims being spaced along their thinner sections but separably joined by longitudinal, manually breakable lines extending along their thicker sections, whereby the shims can be detached from the sheet either individually or in multiples. The shims have pockets defining nailing portions of reduced thickness which minimize the grasp of nails by the shim and allow removal of nails without damage to the shim or adjacent wood and etching to avoid uncontrolled slippage.
Abstract:
A hinge includes a first clevis (30), defining a vee-block support (12) and a first limiter surface (44, 46, 48). A cylindrical hinge shaft is supported by the vee-block (12). A second clevis (140) is affixed to the shaft, whereby the second clevis may rotate in response to torques. The second clevis has a limiter surface (148) which coacts with the first limiter to limit rotation of the shaft and second clevis past the deployed state. The second clevis (140) has a cam follower (158) at a predetermined distance from the axis of rotation (2). A cam (100, 104) affixed to the first clevis (30) rotates about a cam axis (3'). The deployed-state engagement between the cam and the follower snugs one end of the shaft into the vee-block, while the rotation limiters snug the other end. A rotational driver (50, 54, 70, 75, 90, 110) urges the cam (100, 104) to rotate in a direction which tends to move the second clevis (140) from the stowed state toward the deployed state. The use of vee-blocks reduces manufacturing tolerances, and the hinge is loose, and rotates easily, from a first (stowed) state until it reaches the second (deployed) state. In the deployed state, the camming action, in conjunction with the stops, tightens the hinge pin into the vee-blocks, making a rigid structure.
Abstract:
A side mount garage door operator capable of being positioned on either the ceiling or end wall of a garage at either side of the garage door on a frame unit, the operator providing a clutch for disengaging the drive motor from the garage door in the absence of electric power and having a manual graspable handle operated by a solenoid when power is present and operable manually in the absence of power. Novel limit means having limits which is on the end of an axially movable bar which is moved by a follower riding in a spiral groove in the base of a disk such as a gear connected to the drive shaft.
Abstract:
Apparatus for mounting a sliding door for horizontal movement in a frame which has an upwardly-extending upper track and an upwardly-extending lower track which comprises a horizontally-elongated rib defining a generally vertically-oriented plane. The apparatus includes a sliding door panel which includes upper and lower generally horizontal rail members. Means are provided to mount the sliding door panel to the upper track for horizontal movement along the track. The apparatus also includes an extruded elongated element suspended from the lower generally-horizontal rail member of the sliding door panel. The elongated element is disposed for free reciprocating vertical movement relative to the lower generally-horizontal rail member. The elongated element is provided with a length substantially the full length of the sliding door panel. The element is also provided with a slot which is formed in a bottom surface of the element. The slot extends substantially the full length of the bottom surface of the elongated element, the slot receiving the horizontally-elongated rib defined by the lower track therein.
Abstract:
A swing door hinge is provided comprising a first hinge member having a projection of approximately rectangular block shape and provided with at least two engaging recesses, the first hinge member being intended to be mounted to either a wall frame or a swing door, and a second hinge member having at least two engaging arms inserted into respective engaging of the first hinge member for pivotal movement and guide openings provided in the engaging arms. The second hinge member, which is also intended to be mounted to the wall frame or the swing door whichever does not carry the first hinge member, has pivot pins mounted in the guide openings and yieldingly urged by respective springs in the inward direction. Each pivot pin is inserted at its front end into a respective engaging recess of the first hinge member and pivotably mounted to a shaft which is installed in such a position of the projection that the distance thereof from the front end of the projection is smaller than the distance thereof from each side end of the projection.
Abstract:
Hinge for a door, window or the like, the sash of which is partially overlapping the sash-frame and outwardly tiltable about a horizontal spindle located at the height of its upper rail including a) hinged lower compass arms imparting to the sash, at the very beginning of its opening, a path with vertical components, b) and upper hinge elements capable of simultaneously outwardly projecting the upper rail of the sash during the substantially vertical movement thereof. The hinge includes an assistance mechanism to push back, vertically and upwards, the sash at the end of closing, and to simultaneously position and center the sash with respect to the sash-frame.
Abstract:
A sliding door suspension system and a sliding door assembly for supporting a heavy sliding door from a door frame includes a rail horizontally mounted to the door frame. The suspension system includes a roller assembly which rollingly engages the rail and supports the heavy door. The roller assembly includes an axle or shaft having a bearing surface. The axle has at least one threaded end for securing the roller assembly and for attaching the roller assembly to a door hanger from which the heavy door is suspended. The roller assembly further includes a roller with a concentric hollow bore for seating a bearing assembly or bushing through which the axle extends in supportive engagement with the bearing assembly. The rail has a convex arcuate upper roller guide surface. The roller has a concave arcuate roller guide engaging surface which conforms to and engages the upper surface of the rail. The roller assembly also includes a door height and alignment adjusting member which threadably engages the axle. In one embodiment, the door height adjusting member comprises an eccentric sleeve, whereas in an alternative embodiment, the door height adjusting member comprises an adjuster block.
Abstract:
A sliding door assembly comprising a door hanger, a hanger sheave, an upthrust roller and a track, wherein the hanger sheave assembly and the uptrust roller are rotatably mounted on the door hanger. The track provides a first rolling surface for the hanger sheave and a second rolling surface for the upthrust roller. The track also preferably captures the upthrust roller thereby preventing the assembly from leaving the track.
Abstract:
An automatic door/window closing device has a center shaft provided with V-shaped spiral channels to a base such as its surface and secured to a base such as the ground, a floating piston which forms a screw pair with the shaft by engagement of steel balls in the spiral channels, a housing with a flange which is secured to the door or window, a spring for providing the force to automatically close the door, and a cover. This device has a simple structure and is very light and which permits a door to be opened in both directions. After opening, the door will automatically close, and it can be also be damped for slowly closing the door. The door will rest when it opens to 90.degree..
Abstract:
The device comprises a guide rail (1) having a cross-section in the general shape of a C and fixed to a wall (M) and defining two guide surfaces (8, 9). One of the guide surfaces (8) has a notch (2) with which cooperates at least one roller (G.sub.1) or other rolling or sliding element carried by the door support means (13). The other guide surface cooperates with at least one roller (G.sub.2) or other rolling or sliding element carried by a pivotal arm (21) connected to the door (P). The or each pivotal arm is disposed completely within the rail (1) and operates under compressive stress.
