Abstract:
Michael addition products of monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid esters, capable of undergoing Michael addition, with compounds containing double bonds capable of undergoing Michael addition are suitable for use as a curing component for synthetic resins containing groups capable of amide formation and/or ester formation with carboxylic acids. In particular, the Michael addition products of acetoacetic esters or malonic esters with esters, amides or urea derivatives of .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acids are used. The structure and the functionality of the curing component can be varied in many ways. It can be attached directly to the synthetic resin molecule, so that self-curing synthetic resins are obtained.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a self-crosslinking heat-curable binder, in particular for electrocoating finishes, based on an organic synthetic resin which contains primary and/or secondary hydroxyl groups, esterified carboxyl groups and quaternary ammonium groups and can be diluted with water as a result of partial or complete neutralization with acids. The esterified carboxyl groups are activated in the alcohol component by a substituent which has a negative inductive effect.
Abstract:
A resinous composition for coating use comprising an amphoteric resin having an acidic resinous component and a basic component of a basic compound, and an amino-formaldehyde resin etherified with monohydric alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and/or isocyanate compound, which is characterized by the fact that the basic component of a said amphoteric resin consists of a basic compound whose titration midpoint potential in non-aqueous potentiometric titration, when incorporated into the resin, is less than 450 mV, and the basicity of the amphoteric resin is within the range of 1.0.times.10.sup.-2 to 1.0 m mol/g solid. This composition can exhibit excellent pigment dispersibility and is useful as resinous vehicle for a coating composition to be used as a top coat for automobile bodies and the like.

A one component moisture curable composition containing (A) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl polymer and (B) an acid phosphoric compound having ##STR1## linkage in the molecule as a hardener, which has excellent recoatability, curing property and adhesion to other paint films and is particularly suitable as a coating composition for use in multicoat coating.
Abstract:
An aqueous coating composition which comprises an aqueous resin having a carboxyl group (I) and a water-insoluble resin powder (II), the aqueous resin (I) being the one dispersible or soluble into an aqueous medium by ionization when the carboxyl group is neutralized with a basic substance, and the water-insoluble resin powder (II) being the one of 5 to 100 in acid value obtained by reaction between a carboxyl group-containing resin of 20 to 300 in acid value in a solid state at room temperature and a monoepoxy compound or a monoisocyanate compound.
Abstract:
A moisture curable composition comprising (I) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl polymer and (II) a combined curing catalyst system of (a) an organic phosphorus-containing compound such as an organic acid phosphate, an organic acid phosphite, or an acid titanium phosphate such as those known as titanate coupling agent and (b) an amine compound. The composition has well balanced pot life and curability and provides a cured product having an excellent appearance, and the curability can be arbitrarily controlled according to the purposes by selecting the ratio of the components (a) and (b).
Abstract:
A one component room temperature setting composition having an excellent storage stability comprising a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl polymer, a hardener and a stabilizer selected from a hydrolyzable ester compound and a .beta.-diketone compound, which may further contain a pigment and a solvent. The storage stability of the composition containing the hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl polymer which is crosslinkable in the presence of water to harden at room temperature, can be remarkably improved by the presence of the above stabilizer.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a selfcrosslinking heat-hardenable binder, in particular for electropaints, which is based on an organic synthetic resin which contains hydroxyl groups and esterified carboxyl groups in the form of carbalkoxymethyl ester groups and is water-dilutable by partial or complete acid-neutralization of amino groups present in the resin.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprises a hydroxy component having at least two free hydroxyl groups per molecule and an anhydride component which is a polymer-containing cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride groups derived from an olefinically unsaturated cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride, the two components being packaged separately during storage of the composition and being compatible on mixing. At least one of the components is a film-forming polymer. The composition includes a catalytically effective amount of amine groups for accelerating the curing reaction between the hydroxyl groups and the anhydride groups. The amine groups are present in the molecule of the hydroxy component or in a separate amine compound. The hydroxy component is preferably a film-forming acrylic copolymer having pendent hydroxyl and dialkyl-amino-alkyl groups. The composition is particularly useful as a glossy pigmented coating for rigid substrates such as vehicle bodies where hardening of the coating at ambient temperature is required.
