Abstract: Methods and applications for relating the structure of a molecule in a library to its function are described. Embodiments described herein relate structure to function by considering the covalent structure of the molecule, the components of that structure that are common to many molecules in the library, and the properties of those components as they relate to the function in question. Applications include, for example, enhancement and amplification of the diagnostic and prognostic signals provided by peptide arrays for use in analyzing the profile of antibodies in the blood produced in response to a disease, condition or treatment.

Abstract: A system and method for detecting central pulmonary embolisms in a subject's vasculature is provided. In some aspects, the method includes receiving, using the input, a set of images representing a vasculature of the subject's lungs, automatically analyzing the set of images to segment the main arteries associated with the subject's lungs and separate the main arteries from surrounding tissues. The method also includes automatically extracting central pulmonary embolism candidates from the set of images after segmenting and separating the main arteries, and automatically evaluating the central pulmonary embolism candidates in three-dimensional (3D) space by applying a series of rules. The method further includes automatically displaying a report indicating evaluated central pulmonary embolism candidates on a display.

Abstract: Methods for seeding live cells onto spatially defined regions of a substrate including multiple features (e.g., microwells or other microenvironments) utilize a stencil embodied in a hole-defining sacrificial film. A sacrificial film devoid of holes may be applied over features of a substrate, and a hole generating mechanism (e.g., hot needle or laser) aligned with features may be used to define holes in the film. Alternatively, holes may be predefined in a sacrificial film to form a stencil, and the stencil may be assembled to the substrate with the holes registered with features thereof. Thereafter, cells are seeded through holes in the film. Seeded cells are subject to incubation, further processing, and/or performance of one or more assays, and the hole-defining sacrificial film (stencil) may be removed.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing cancer screening assays are disclosed. The disclosed systems and methods use a thin film comprising cross-linked polysiloxane. At least a portion of a biological sample to be assayed is contacted with the thin film, along with a cell culture media. After a subsequent incubation period, the thin film is visualized to detect a wrinkle pattern (or lack thereof). The presence of one or more wrinkles and/or a higher degree of wrinkling in the thin film indicates the presence of cancer cells in the biological sample. The disclosed systems and methods can be incorporated into improved assays and kits for cancer screening.
