Abstract:
A method and system by which base stations in a Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN), and more generally transceivers in a cognitive radio (CR) system, can communicate to fairly share transmission and reception of scheduled use (“occupancy”) of frames on a single channel within a frame-based, on demand spectrum contention system. The method and system disclose how a base station can acquire the scheduled use of a share of the frames available in subsequent superframes of the CR system. The method and system assure fair and efficient access to the transmission channel by using a random number based contention process.
Abstract:
A fuel cell device includes a housing containing a fuel processor that generates fuel gas and a fuel cell having electrodes forming an anode and cathode, and an ion exchange electrolyte positioned between the electrodes. The housing can be formed as first and second cylindrically configured outer shell sections that form a battery cell that is configured similar to a commercially available battery cell. A thermal-capillary pump can be operative with the electrodes and an ion exchange electrolyte, and operatively connected to the fuel processor. The electrodes are configured such that heat generated between the electrodes forces water to any cooler edges of the electrodes and is pumped by capillary action back to the fuel processor to supply water for producing hydrogen gas. The electrodes can be formed on a silicon substrate that includes a flow divider with at least one fuel gas input channel that can be controlled by a MEMS valve.
Abstract:
A subframe structure for wireless communication uses a master common subframe and second master common subframe method to give BSs different priorities to serve overlapping areas in common subframes. The subframe structure and corresponding method can increase overlapping cells' capacity and reduce interference.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are described for displaying video data after a hot plug event during a start-up dead period. In particular, approaches for receiving data, determining whether link training can be performed and, if not, self-configuring a receiver to display the information in a proper format even during the dead period.
Abstract:
To address a desire to run 3D applications based on the OpenGL standard on OpenGL|ES mobile devices such as cellular telephones, one must be able to translate function calls between OpenGL and OpenGL|ES. In supporting this translation, and so as to ensure proper data state for the continued execution of the OpenGL application, global GL states which might be changed by an OpenGL|ES function used during translation are stored. The OpenGL to OpenGL|ES translation is then effectuated by substituting appropriate OpenGL|ES commands for OpenGL commands, and passing OpenGL|ES APIs for OpenGL|ES implementation. Thereafter, the global GL states which were previously saved are restored such that the performed translation does not adversely impact continued execution of the OpenGL configured application. This translation process supports OpenGL to OpenGL|ES translation with respect to a number of OpenGL APIs as well as some known extensions.
Abstract:
In an embodiment, to deter or delay counterfeiting/cloning of a replacement component of a host device, the replacement component is provided with a code value. The code value is generated from a value of at least one physical parameter of the replacement component and is stored on the replacement component. The host device determines whether the replacement component is authentic if the stored code value matches a reference code value.
Abstract:
A method for communications between neighboring wireless cells such as wireless regional area networks operating according to IEEE 802.22 specifications. The method involves scheduling inter-base station communications for over-the-air connections to allow neighboring base stations to communicate in environments where a single available channel is shared between the neighboring cells or where two or more channels used by two or more neighboring cells. In some embodiments, a bridge system, such as a bridge consumer premise equipment (CPE), positioned in an area of coverage overlap between two cells is used for inter-base station communications, and allocation and scheduling of bandwidth on the utilized channels is performed to provide interference free communications between the base stations. Existence announcements are provided in coexistence time slots and requests for bandwidth such as reserved and additional time slots are transmitted between the base stations using the coexistence time slots.
Abstract:
A method that includes forming a first level of active circuitry on a substrate, forming a first probe pad electrically connected to the first level of active circuitry where the first probe pad having a first surface, contacting the first probe pad with a probe tip that displaces a portion of the first probe pad above the first surface, and performing a chemical mechanical polish on the first probe pad to planarize the portion of the first probe pad above the first surface. The method also includes forming a second level of active circuitry overlying the first probe pad, forming a second probe pad electrically connected to the second level of active circuitry, contacting the second probe pad with a probe tip that displaces a portion of the probe pad, and chemically mechanically polishing the second probe pad to remove the portion displaced.
Abstract:
A forward converter circuit includes a transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding. A first transistor is coupled in series with the primary winding and a second transistor is coupled in series with the secondary winding. A control circuit generates PWM control signals for controlling operation of the first and second transistors. The control signals are generated responsive to source PWM signals processed through programmable delay timers to generate set/reset control signals which set an output PWM control signal duty cycle.
Abstract:
An apparatus for displaying images. The apparatus comprises: an LCD panel comprising a plurality of pixels for displaying the images; and a backlight comprising a plurality of light sources. Each of the plurality of light sources is associated with one of a plurality of zones and each of the plurality of zones comprises a plurality of grid points. A controller coupled to the LCD panel and the backlight is configured to retrieve contour data associated with each of the plurality of light sources. The contour data is associated with a 3-D contour shape comprising a plurality of facets, each facet associated with at least one of the plurality of grids. The controller is configured to determine a brightness level of at least one pixel in a first grid based on a slope value associated with a first facet associated with the first grid.
