A planographic printing plate precursor includes a support having disposed thereon a recording layer containing a water-insoluble and alkali-soluble resin, a development inhibitor and an infrared absorber and exhibiting enhanced solubility in an aqueous alkali solution through light exposure. The recording layer may have either a mono-layer construction or a multi-layer construction containing a lower layer and an upper layer. In the case of the multi-layer construction, a layer containing the water-insoluble and alkali-soluble resin is used as the lower layer, and a layer containing the water-insoluble and alkali-soluble resin and the development inhibitor and exhibiting enhanced solubility in an aqueous alkali solution through light exposure is used as the upper layer, and at least one of the lower layer and the upper layer contains the infrared absorber.

Provided is an image recording material capable of being directly recorded by various kinds of lasers, excellent in alkali-developability by alkaline developer and capable of forming an image which is good in curability by exposure. The image recording material is characterized by including on a support: an image recording layer containing a binder polymer (A); a compound (B) having a polymerizable unsaturated group, and a polymerization initiator (C); and a layer containing an organic ionic polymer (a) formed of a non-metallic element and an inorganic layered compound (b) that are layered in this order. It is preferable that the image recording layer further contains a dye (D) having an absorption maximum in a region of 300 to 1,200 nm, and it is preferable that the binder polymer (A) is a polymer having an alkali-soluble group.

A planographic printing plate precursor includes a substrate and an image recording layer provided thereon, the image recording layer being capable of recording through exposure to an infrared ray and containing at least (A) an infrared absorbing agent, (B) a polymerization initiator comprising an onium salt formed by an onium cation and a carboxylic acid anion, where the carboxylic acid anion has an acid group, a hetero atom and an aromatic group, (C) a polymerizable compound and (D) a binder polymer. The planographic printing plate precursor is exposed imagewise with an infrared laser. Then, printing is carried out using the exposed planographic printing plate precursor, which is set in a printer without being subjected to any developing process, by feeding an oil based ink and an aqueous component onto the planographic printing plate precursor. Unexposed areas of the planographic printing plate precursor are removed during the printing process.

A color image-forming material capable of drawing an image by infrared laser exposure and excellent in image visibility, storage stability and white light stability, and an on-press development or non-processing (non-development) type lithographic printing plate precursor ensuring high sensitivity and high press life and being excellent in image visibility, on-press developability and the like, are provided, which are a color image-forming material comprising an image recording layer capable of drawing an image by infrared laser exposure, the color image-forming material forming a color image without passing through a development processing step after image recording, wherein the image recording layer comprises (A) an infrared absorbent, (B) a cyclic color-forming compound having a cyclic structure within the molecule and forming a dye by a ring opening, and (C) a dye stabilizer which is a compound interacting with the cyclic color-forming compound to stabilize the ring-opened dye body and cause color formation and which is released from the interaction upon laser exposure to decrease in the color formation; and a lithographic printing plate precursor using this color image-forming material.

The infrared-ray photosensitive planographic printing plate precursor of the present invention comprises a support, a recording layer provided on one side of the support, and a back coating layer provided on a side opposite to a side having the recording layer of the support, and the recording layer contains (a) a long chain alkyl group-containing polymer containing a vinyl monomer having a carboxyl group at a composition ratio within a range from 20 to 99 mol %, and (b) an infrared absorbing agent, and can form an image by infrared-ray irradiation. According to this planographic printing plate precursor, even when the precursor is packaged and transported without using a protective paper (interleaving paper) between plate materials, a recording layer is hardly scratched.
